Crochet Basics Guide

C2C Helix Scarf

Materials
Worsted weight (CYCA #4) yarn in two colors: about 590 yds
of MC; 310 yds of CC. (Dark green squares in chart represent
MC, light blue squares represent CC).
Sample scarf used: We Crochet Brava worsted weight (100%
acrylic; 218 yd [200 m]/31/2 oz [100g]): #28435 Hunter (MC) 3
skeins, and #28419 Clarity (CC) 2 skeins.

Tools
H hook, yarn needle, piece of cardboard measuring 8.5” wide
(for fringe).

Finished size
Approximately 88” long excluding fringe, 9” wide.

Gauge
5 squares wide x 5 squares tall = 4”. Each square is made with
a chain 3, and 3 dc stitches.

Notes
All odd rows are worked with RS facing from right side of
chart sloping down to the left side of chart.
All even rows are worked with the WS facing from the left side
of the chart climbing up to the right side of the chart. Dark
green squares in chart represent MC, light blue squares
represent CC.

Directions
Each square represents one ch-3, and 3 dc sts. Work chart
rows 1-32 in corner-to-corner crochet technique.
Repeat Rows 11-32 of chart three more times.
Work Chart Rows 33-47.
Fasten off. Weave in all ends. Block if desired.

Fringe
Wrap CC loosely around cardboard rectangle 48 times, cut
loops of yarn to create 48 pieces of fringe measuring about
17” long. Fasten 6 pieces of fringe (at the same time) to each
of the 4 CC blocks across each edge of scarf as follows:
*Insert hook through block at bottom of scarf. Lay 6 pieces of
fringe (held together as one), un-evenly over hook, pull hook
through block holding onto longer end of fringe to keep it in
place. After shorter end slips through block even out ends and
tie them together in an overhand knot. Repeat for each CC
block along each edge. Repeat process with MC wrapping 84
times for 84 strands of MC yarn. Fasten MC fringe to each MC
block. Trim fringe evenly.
