OCDSB IB Application Questionnaire

Instructions: Please answer each of the following questions using full sentences. Your
responses should be typed into a word processing document and saved as a PDF that you will
upload with your application. Indicate clearly which response corresponds to which question.
Each response should be no more than 250 words. Ideally, a response will be between 200 and
250 words.
1. What activities have you been involved with at school or in the community? Please
briefly describe your role in each activity. Choose one of these activities and expand
further, discussing why this activity is important to you and what personal growth you
have experienced or expect to gain from the activity.

In School I've been involved with a lot of different activities, but my favorite activity was the soccer
tournament. My role in soccer is as a midfielder. A midfielder plays to try and score goals for the team
and to play back and defend against the opposing team as well to try and give great passes so his
teammates can score. This activity is important to me because it's really good exercise, it can help me
increase my stamina and speed. This activity is also important to me because it's fun and it's a team
game where if you know how your teammates play, youll have a greater chance of winning and if you
don't know how your teammates play, your chances of winning are pretty low.I Also like this activity
because I made friends playing soccer and I also met really cool people. I also learned lots of new tricks
to do with the ball and impress my friends. In addition i've been playing soccer ever since i was 4 and i've
been liking it since then. I recommend that kids at school try out for the soccer team and start playing
soccer so they can make new friends and have fun and get good exercise done. This is the school activity
that I always participate in and that I enjoy the most.

2. How do you intend to contribute to your school and your community during your time in
the IB programme? What motivates you and inspires you to take action? Please
describe an issue that is important to you and discuss what you can do to make a
difference.

I intend to contribute to Merivale High School in lots of different ways. The first way would be
trying out different activities, helping teachers, and participating in class. My second way would
be making new friends with new people and making them feel more confident. What motivates
me to go to ib school is the knowledge. For example, instead of 4 subjects I can learn six
different subject groups including languages, humanities, sciences, and math. Another reason
for me to go to IB school is for universities because IB Diploma graduates have a better chance
of enrolling in one of the UK’s top 20 universities and colleges than other students with similar
qualifications. It was also found that IB graduates are more likely to be admitted into 10 of the
US’s most prestigious universities. Also because I want my parents to be happy of me and to be
proud that I made it to the IB program. One issue that I think will be kind of hard for me is going
to a new school where I know nobody and I don't know the place, I will have to make new
friends. I think I can fix this issue if I talk more to people and if one of my other friends also goes
to the same school or if I participate in activities so I can talk to lots of people.

3. In your own words, what attracts you to the IB programme?

What attracts me to the IB program the most is to get smarter and make my parents proud that I
can go to a good university and a good school and participate in lots of activities. Also because
In Canada and around the world, the IB Diploma Programme is recognized and respected.
Graduates of the programme bring a passion for learning to postsecondary campuses and are
prepared for academic success. By the time I graduate, I will have gained experience of a
rigorous and balanced program, have developed critical thinking skills, communication skills,
study skills, and be able to adapt and contribute to university life.

I will develop the knowledge, skills, and motivation to succeed not only at university but in life
beyond. Through the IB, I will learn how to think, not what to think. With its help, I am able to
confidently embrace and overcome the challenges in our world.

It will make my parents proud to see me go to a good university and a good school like Merivale
High School and my parents would be happy if I became smarter. Here are the reasons why I
want to go to IB.

4. Choose one trait from the OCDSB Exit Outcomes and explain how you reflect and hope
to further develop that characteristic. OCDSB Exit Outcomes are provided below. Please
follow the hyperlink for the full OCDSB Exit Outcome poster.

Resilientness is one of the characteristics I would like to improve. My goal is to improve

Resilience because every time I make mistakes, I don't reflect on them and improve them. I also
want to have a resilient face and overcome adversity and challenging situations. It is important
for me to take risks, learn from mistakes, persevere, and move forward confidently in the future.
Another reason is that if I can learn from my mistakes I'll be able to get smarter. This is why I
want to improve Relisent.

Critical thinking is one of the skills I would like to improve. It is important to me to improve it
since critical thinkers engage in independent and reflective thinking.I can identify the relevance,
validity and importance of ideas using rational and intuitive processes. I can also understand the
logical connections between ideas. I will learn to construct and evaluate arguments using
criteria. I will generate solutions and create new ways of thinking.Critical thinking helps people
better understand themselves, their motivations and goals. When you can deduce information to
find the most important parts and apply those to your life, you can change your situation and
promote personal growth and overall happiness. This is why I want to improve Critical thinking.
