The Avidyne DFC90/100 must be installed per the installation data listed in the STC Master
Document List.
2. System Configuration
This section describes configuring the Avidyne DFC90/100 Autopilot Computer.
2.1 Cirrus 2X
The Avidyne Autopilot is configured using a Primary Flight Display (PFD) or Integrated
Flight Display (IFD). Section Error! Reference source not found. describes configuring the
DFC90 Autopilot Computer using the PFD. Section 2.1.2 describes configuring the DFC90
Autopilot using the Aspen EFD1000. Section 2.1.3 describes configuring the DFC100
Autopilot using the IFD.
NOTE: The Avidyne Primary Flight Display must have Modification 55 and Software
530-00214-( ) Rev. 02 (or later) Installed (Release 8) for the DFC90.
NOTE: The Avidyne Integrated Flight Display must have Release 9.2.1 Software 530-
00220-( ) Rev. 02 (or later) Installed for the DFC100
NOTE: The Aspen EFD1000 Primary Flight Display must have Software 302-00007-( )
Rev. 2.6 (or later)
After configuring the PFD for the appropriate Aircraft Type, the Servo Linkages are
automatically pre-loaded by the PFD. However, the installer must verify each linkage type is
correct, type, “0” indicates not installed and “1” indicates installed.
In Maintenance Mode on the PFD, select Page 2 of the Avionics Tab. Select Next Selection
until “Buzzer Volume” is highlighted. Turn the PFD knob until the Autopilot Disconnect
Volume is set to an appropriate level. Verify the tone is heard with and without headsets
while the engine(s) are running.
Set the Pitch Servo Type to "0" if a Pitch Servo is not installed in the aircraft. Set the Pitch
Servo Type to "1" if a Pitch Servo is installed in the aircraft.
Set the Pitch Servo Linkage to type “0” if a Pitch Servo is not installed in the aircraft. Set the
Pitch Linkage to "1" if a Pitch Servo is installed in the aircraft.
Set the Pitch Servo Linkage to type “0” for all aircraft.
Set the Pitch Trim Servo Linkage to type “0” for all aircraft.
Set the Roll Servo Type to "0" if a Roll Servo is not installed in the aircraft. Set the Roll Servo
Type to "1" if a Roll Servo is installed in the aircraft.
Set the Roll Servo Linkage to type “0” if a Roll Servo is not installed in the aircraft. Set the
Roll Linkage to "1" if a Roll Servo is installed in the aircraft.
Set the Autopilot volume to an appropriate level. Verify the tone is heard with and without
headsets while the engine is running.
The Aspen PFD must be configured with the Maximum Autopilot Airspeed. Reference the
Autopilot’s Airplane Flight Manual Supplement for the Maximum Airspeed Limitation.
Set the Autopilot aircraft configuration per the Aspen installation manual.
Verify Panel Tilt Adjustment is correct. The Attitude Reference Symbol Adjustment
MUST be set to 0.0° during the Panel Tilt Pitch Adjustment.
3. Post-Installation Checks
This Section will test the Autopilot System for proper operation. Prior to starting this Section,
verify the Flight Display is configured correctly and not displaying any caution/warnings.
This Section should be performed after installation and immediately following any
maintenance on the Autopilot System.
3.1.1 Lighting
Verify the Autopilot is connected to the Aircraft’s Instrument Lighting control. While
adjusting the instrument lighting control, verify the Autopilot’s front bezel changes
intensity along with the other avionics equipment.
After successful completion of the maintenance flight check, complete and install the
Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, DFC90 or DFC100 Airplane Flight Manual
Supplement, Primary Flight Display Release 8 Pilot Guide Addendum (DFC90 Only), and the
Pilot’s Guide into the aircraft. Also, complete an Electrical Load Analysis and update the
Aircraft’s Weight and Balance, reference Section 4 in the DFC90/100 Installation Manual as
needed.
1 The
aircraft’s total electrical load should be less than 80 percent of the total generator output, per
FAA AC 43.13-1B.
2 The Aircraft’s Weight and Balance must be updated prior to returning the aircraft to service.
3 Aircraft installing an external Pitch Trim Relay must add 60 mA to the electrical load.
This test is only for Cirrus SR20 without a Pitch Servo. This test will verify if the
Aircraft’s Pitch (bendable) Trim Tab is set correctly. The aircraft should be
configured for Maximum Weight with a Forward Center of Gravity. After
reaching a safe altitude perform the following steps:
a. Decrease Power to 40% or less
b. Run the Manual Electric Trim for full Pitch Up
c. Verify the Aircraft Stabilizes at an Airspeed ≤90 KIAS
d. Recover to Normal Flight
If the aircraft does not indicate ≤90 KIAS, reference Section 4 of the DFC90/100
Installation Manual.
Table 3 below lists Compatible Displays for the DFC90/100 Autopilot. All new installations
must have the following Software installed on the Display. Reference Appendix B for
previous Display Software Compatibility.
