B. Discussion
Software is a collection of instructions that enable the user to interact with a computer,
its hardware, or perform tasks. Without software, most computers would be useless.
The first step is drawing your image. Then scan it into your computer and finally, use a
computer program to transform your work by cropping, editing, enhancing, lightening,
darkening, shading, adding color, layering, styling, or just about any other editing graphic you
can think of.
To get started with digital painting, the following could be of great help.
1. GIMP - a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image
retouching and editing.
2. Photo Editor - an application used for editing photos.
The software above has several tools that provide all the colors that is needed to make
the coloring in your painting easy.
1. Burn Tool - darkens the image. Just drag the tool over the image.
2. Crop Tool - changes the size of the image. Select the area you want to crop
and press enter.
3. Eraser Tool - erases part of the image in a certain layer by flattening the
image or go through every layer to delete the part.
4. Type Tool - puts texts in a picture.
5. Pencil Tool and Brush Tool - these tools draw or paint a line. To
change the color of the paint brush, click on the color picker.
C. Readings.
1. Microsoft Publisher
It is an office suite program used primarily for laying out and designing
publications from websites and newsletters to business cards and brochures.
However, Publisher also allows you to create your own logo by modifying one of the logos
included in the Publisher Design Gallery.
You need to provide your own content in terms of logo text and graphics. Adapting a logo in
Publisher may save you some time and money on logo design.
2. Microsoft Powerpoint
It is one of the most popular office software. From school projects to business
presentations, PowerPoint is always ready to back you up. Indeed, this software
is super helpful and simple to use, yet sometimes you might face some
challenges, such as creating PowerPoint logos.
3. Microsoft Word
Word may not be known for its graphic design capabilities, but Word 2010 offers
some versatile and effective tools and features to use with both text and images.
Use these tools to design a logo for your business or organization using your
basic office toolset, avoiding the expense and training required with higher-end graphics
software. The tools in Word enable you to combine text and graphics, create special effects
and convert everything into one image.
Microsoft Word offers a stunning range of amazing fonts to create a logotype. Plus, you can
make all kinds of creative choices, including pasting a text into different shapes, experimenting
with WordArt objects, adding patterns, and playing around with textures and backgrounds.
With due amount of inspiration and patience, you can craft an original emblem!
4. Microsoft Paint
It really is a helpful little tool, and you can use it to crop/resize photos or create
custom logos, banners and menu buttons. Using a combination of images and
fonts, you should be able to make nice banners, logos and buttons.
5. Photoshop
Creating a logo may seem like a daunting task, but with the help of digital art
software like Photoshop you can easily create an eye-catching and professional
looking logo even if you have no experience with logo designing software. And
once you've created your logo you can continue to use Photoshop to modify the logo for use
online or in print materials, allowing you to put your brand's logo just about anywhere and on
just about anything!
D. Examples
How to Use Microsoft Paint in Windows
The tools and features of this application is limited compare to other photo editors, it
still has its use in Windows 7 and 8.1. It is used to resize, rotate or crop images, as well as to
add various new elements such as text boxes or shapes. Paint can also convert images between
popular image formats such as GIF, JPEG, BMP and PNG but it cannot work with layers.
The operation is divided into eight (8) parts:
Part 1 – Opening Paint
Step 1: Click Windows logo in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Step 2: Type in (paint). This will search your computer for the Paint Program.
Step 3: Look for the Paint app icon. In the Start menu, look for the Paint app icon, which
resembles a paint palette with paint on it.
Step 4: Click (Paint). It’s next to the Paint app icon. Doing so will open a new Paint window.
Step 4: Select a brush type. Click the Brushes option at the top of the Paint window, then click
the type of brush tip you want to use. This is what affects the line size, shape, and
width options. If you just want to draw a regular free-form line, click the pencil-
shaped “Pencil” icon in the “Tools” section.
Step 5: Select a line thickness. Click the Size option to the left of the color palette, then click
the line thickness you want to use while drawing.
Step 6: Click and drag across the canvas to draw. Holding down the left mouse button while
dragging will draw your line. You can click and drag with the right mouse button to
use your secondary color.
Step 7: Fill a section with color. Click the “Fill with color” tool, which resembles a paint
bucket, in the “Tools” section, then click the canvas to change an entire section of it
to your primary color (you can right-click to use your secondary color instead).
If you have the canvas sectioned off (e.g., a line dividing the canvas in
two), only the section in which you click will be filled with color.
If your canvas is blank or contains no full sections, your whole canvas
will be filled in when you use the “Fill with color” tool.
Step 8: Erase mistakes. You use the eraser function by clicking the pink “Eraser” icon in the
“Tools” section and then clicking and dragging the eraser over the portion of the
image you want to erase.
Step 3: Select a location for your text. Find the place on your canvas in which you want to
place the text, then click the place in question. You should see a dotted line indicating
a text box appear.
Step 4: Change the text’s font. In the “Font” section of the toolbar, click the top text box and
then click the font you want to use in the resulting drop-down menu.
Step 5: Change the font’s size. Click the number below the font name, then click the number
you want to use for your font.
Step 6: Add formatting to the text. If you want to bold, italicize, and/or underline your text,
click the B, I, and/or U button(s) in the “Font” section of the toolbar.
Step 7: Increase the text box’s size if necessary. Since you adjusted the default font and size,
you may need to enlarge the text box. You can do this by placing your mouse cursor
over one of the corners of the text box and then dragging diagonally away from the
text box’s center.
Step 8: Enter your text. In the text box, type in the text that you want to display.
Step 9: Give your text a background if you like. If you don’t want your text to sit on whatever
background items are on your canvas, click Opaque in the “Background” section of
the toolbar.
Step 10: Anchor your text. When you’re done editing your text, click anywhere on the canvas
(or outside of it) to anchor the text. Once it has been anchored, you can’t move it.
Step 4: Click Crop. It’s at the top of the Paint window. Doing so will remove any part
of the photo that’s outside of the selected area, leaving only the area inside of the
selection. If you want to cut your selected section out of the photo, press Del.
Step 5: Click Rotate. This option is at the top of the paint window. A drop-down menu will
appear.
Step 6: Select a rotation option. Click one of the rotation options in the drop-down menu to
apply it to the photo.
1. Start Microsoft Word. For the purposes of this article, we’ll be using the 2016 version of
the program.
For more convenience, add a grid that will help you align the elements of your future logo.
2. Create a new document. Go to the “View” tab and check the “Gridlines” box.
5. Now you need to create a copy of the circle. Click on the circle with the right
mouse button and select “Copy.” Make the second circle slightly smaller than the original
one. To put the smaller circle above the bigger one, move it with a cursor. Click on the
inner circle and make its border line thicker. Change the color of the stroke line to white.
If your emblem has no border line, you can easily add it in settings.
6. By using the “Insert” tool, add two parallel horizontal lines to your logo.
7. The next step is to add your company name by using the “Text” tool. You can type the
text either inside, or outside the circle, whichever option you find more convenient. Let’s
add the text inside the circle.
8. By using the “Text” tool, customize the font of your brand name. Plus, make sure the
color of your text goes well with your icon.
9. Don’t forget to choose a transparent background for your text and remove the border line.
10. As we’re creating a logo for a coffee business, we need to draw a coffee-related item under
the brand name. By using the “Paste” tool, add the geometric shapes that will help you
depict a nice coffee cup.
11. To give a refined feel to the cup, add a curved line under the text.
12. Select all logo elements and click on “Group.” If you need to move the emblem, it’ll move
in one piece, with each element staying in its place.
13. Done! As you can see, Microsoft Word offers enough design features to craft a neat
emblem!
