Remarkable?

Person Presentation
What does it mean to be labeled “remarkable?” According to Dictionary.com, remarkable is defined as notably or conspicuously unusual;
extraordinary 2. worthy of notice or attention. We all know the world is full of remarkable people, but are those who are publicly awarded
this title the most deserving of the such a designation? While some stand above others in terms of the contributions they made to the greater
good of humanity and are therefore very deserving, others receive the title simply for their media appeal and ability to make dollar. For this
assignment, it is your responsibility to research your assigned person of “influence” and determine exactly how influential this person is and
how deserving he/she is of this distinction. You will then present your findings to the class by means of a PowerPoint presentation.

To present your remarkable person, you must meet the following criteria.

Content:
 An introductory slide with the person’s name and photo.
 One to two biographical background slides. Inform your audience of the person’s place of birth, the year of birth,
upbringing, etc.
 One to three slides outlining his/her contributions to the world. What make this person influential and/or remarkable?
What difference has he/she made in the lives of others? Is he/she just a puppet of the media machine? Using your
knowledge about media literacy, analyze this person accordingly.
 One slide with a minimum of two sources listed in MLA bibliographic format.
 A catchy introduction and satisfying conclusion that engage your audience and bring the speech to a satisfying
conclusion.

Additional Requirements:
 One hyperlink to be accessed during your presentation.
 A minimum of three images of the person, his/her work, etc.
 One sound or video clip.
 One appropriate animation effect.

Delivery:
 Three to four minutes in length.
 Speaker demonstrates mastery of delivery techniques: stance, movement, voice inflection, eye contact, facial
expression, gestures, and volume.

The presenter must be prepared to present on his/her assigned day. This means no credit will be given if the speaker is not ready to present.
(Test the technology before you get to class.)

The speech is worth 60 points. Twenty points will be awarded for the content of the speech, twenty points for delivery, and twenty points will
be give for the PowerPoint requirements and design.
