AI Ethics Case Study - Edited

Mayor Hobbes and the WCG initially distanced themselves from predictive policing due to past programs leading to civil liberties violations and disproportionately targeting minorities. Their original program differed by focusing on identifying potential crime victims rather than perpetrators, and recommending social services rather than police involvement. However, the new plan will take a more aggressive approach by involving law enforcement, listing individuals at high risk of crime, and summoning them for interrogation.

AI Ethics Case Study
The development of artificial intelligence systems has created cases of ethical
dilemmas and hard questions. The case study presented shows that issues are associated with
the intersection of AI and ethics. In particular, the American city of New Leviathan has faced
difficulties like deindustrialization, racial tensions, and budgetary deficits. The residents in
the region are also worried about the increased case of violence and crime. This discussion
will analyze whether Mayor Hobbies and the WCG's initial efforts to distance themselves
from predictive policing and whether the original program differed from predictive policing
programs n the past.
According to the case study presented, I think that Mayor Hobbies and the WCG’S
initial efforts to distance themselves from predictive policing were based on the negative
impact of predictive policing on assessing criminal activities. From the case study presented,
neither Mayor Hobbes nor WCG wanted to participate in predictive policing because the
practice had led to controversial practices. Predictive policing involves using predictive
analytics based on mathematical models and analytical techniques to anticipate, prevent and
respond to future criminal activities. For instance, the use of predictive policing strategies by
several American agencies led to the program attacks by civil liberty violations, racist
practices, and allegations of ineffectiveness. The challenges faced in implementing the WCG
program played a key role in Mayor Hobbes's and WCG's efforts to distance themselves from
the predictive policing term.
Next, the Mayor and the WCG distanced themselves from predictive analytics
because it would lead to cases of inequality, injustice, and ineffectiveness. For example, the
residents needed to have adequate knowledge about the predictive policing programs, making
them believe that the program would disproportionately target the poor and minor residents.
The program would also lead to unfairness and inequality in society. These factors led to the
Mayor's and WCG's disengagement in predictive policing.
The original program had significant differences that made it different from the
predictive policing programs in the past. Firstly, the original program focused on identifying
the potential victims of the crimes rather than the perpetrators. Another difference in the
original program was based on the policy recommendations. WCG suggested that the policy
recommendations would be limited to mobilizing the city’s social support services in the id of
the at-risk citizens. For example, there were increased welfare checks. The police would not
be involved at all. The differences led to initial changes in reducing criminal activities. Two
years after the program's implementation, there were reduced gun violence and murder cases
in New Leviathan.

The new plan had vital changes that made it different from the previous practices
because it will be designed to take a more aggressive approach. From the case study
presented, the new plan would also involve law enforcement. Besides, the new plan will
involve listing all individuals at high risk of committing a crime and making the list available
to the NLPD. The NLPD would then summon the potential offenders and list them to the
relevant police stations for interrogations. Lastly, according to the new plan, drawing from
familiar sticks and carrots would be crucial to discourage individuals from committing
crimes. This would help the region to reduce the high crime rates through the use of artificial
intelligence.
In summary, the case study presents crucial information regarding using artificial
intelligence. From the case presented, Mayor Hobbies and WCG distanced themselves from
the program because the program led to program attacks and cases of inequality, injustice,
and ineffectiveness. The original program presented in this case involves significant
differences between predictive policing programs by focusing on the victims of crime. The
new plan will include law enforcement and list all individuals at a higher risk of engaging in
crime.
