I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of pie graphs and experimental probability.

B. Performance The learner is able to create and interpret representations of data (tables and pie graphs)
Standards and apply experimental probability in mathematical problems and real-life situations.
1. Describes the meaning of probability such as 50% chance of rain and one in
a million chance of winning. (M6SP-IVg-19)
C. Learning 2. Quantifies the phrases “most likely to happen” and “unlikely to happen”.
Competencies/ (M6SP-IVh-20)
Objectives • Recognize the elements of probability.
Write the LC • Describe the probability of an event using the terms impossible, unlikely,
code for each equally likely, likely, or certain.
• Identify the elements of probability based on the given situation.
• Realize the importance of probability in daily life.

Activity #1: A Quiz Bee Competition

In a quiz bee, Martin spins a wheel to show from which subject area the question he will
answer will come from. The spinner has four equal sections— Mathematics, Science,
English, and General Information. What are the chances of getting Math question?

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How can we know the

The teacher will ask questions based on the situation given in earlier. Each question will
lead to the discussion of one element of probability.

Guide Questions
1. What will Martin do to know the subject area of the question he will answer
based on problem?
2. What are the possible options in the spinning wheel?
B. EXPLORE 3. What is being asked in the problem?

(The teacher will spin the wheel one time. Then, the students will answer the question.)

4. Based on the result, what is the subject area of the question that Martin would
need to answer?

The class will interactively discuss probability.

• Probability describes how likely or unlikely something will happen.

• Probability may be given in fraction, decimal, or percentage. The value of
probability ranges from 0 to 1 (0 means the event is impossible to happen, while
1 or 100% means the event is certain to happen)

During the guide questions, the teacher will guide the students in determining the four
elements of probability.

FOR GQ #1:
• Experiment- It is a situation involving chance of probability.

FOR GQ #2:
• Sample space- It refers to all sets of possible outcomes in an experiment.

FOR GQ #3:
• Event- It refers to one or more outcomes of an experiment.
• To know what the chances are of getting Math question, we just must divide
C. EXPLAIN
the number of outcomes in an event by the number of outcomes on the sample
space.

• What are the chances of getting a Math question after Martin spins the wheel?

• In describing the probability of getting Mathematics question in quiz bee, we are

going to use the probability line.

FOR GQ #4:
• Outcome- It is the result of a single trial of an experiment.

ACTIVITY #2: Heads or Tails?

Directions: Get and observe a one-peso coin. Answer the question, “What are the
chances of getting HEAD when you toss the coin.” After answering the question, you
will toss a one-peso coin once and write the result of the experiment. Record your
observation by filing out the table.

ACTIVITY #3: PROBABILITY IN REAL LIFE

Directions: Tell whether if the probability of the following situation is impossible,
certain, unlikely, likely, or equally likely. Write your answer in your notebook.

1. It will snow tomorrow in the Philippines.

2. Valentines will be celebrated on February 14.
3. The likelihood that two people in every group of 15 will have the same birthday
is 8%.
4. Sports’ analyst says that Manny Pacquiao has 85% chances of winning.

D. ELABORATE ACTIVITY #4A. CROSSWORD PUZZLE

Directions: Complete the crossword puzzle below using the defined statement on the
right. Write the word on the given puzzle box.

ACTIVITY #4B. Q & A

Directions: The students will answer the following questions.
1. How will you describe the probability of an event?
2. Can you give your own examples on how probability is used in daily life?
