Grade 7 Introduction To Statistics

The document is a lesson plan for a 7th grade mathematics class on introduction to statistics. It outlines objectives to define statistics, gather data by measuring classmates' arm spans, organize the arm span data, and discuss the importance of statistics. It details a pre-activity where students will be divided into groups and refer to the arm span data they previously collected to complete tasks on the activity sheet. The lesson plan aims to help students understand key concepts of statistics and be able to collect, organize, and analyze data through practical examples and group work activities.

In order for us to answer

that, we have an activity.

a. Pre-activity let us first conduct an
activity. You will be
divided into three
groups. In this activity,
you will refer to the data
you gathered a while ago
about the arm spans of
your classmates. Every
group will be provided
an activity sheet
containing the
instructions and the
complete task, and
materials in answering.
Your task will be graded
by this rubric (see
attached rubric).
Accuracy, creativity,

teamwork is important.
You have 10 minutes to

we organize data from the
measurements of my
classmates' arm span.
Nice. In presenting the
data, did you encounter
any difficulties? Yes, because we don't know
what to do in presenting the
data. But we just organize it
with our knowldge in
elementary.
Because we can list it with
the proper labels.

Because we can see easily

you choose table in

Very good. Tables are

data.

Group 2, why did you Statistics is a process of Visual

Very well said. In

organizing data, you
have a freedom to
choose and you need to
be creative in your own
way, but it must be
suited to the data. So I think statistics is used in

You have a point.

Statistics pertains to
numerical data or figures
that can be presented
and counted out of
observations done by
individual.

Group 3, what activities

you listed that you think
Statistics is involved?

Excellent! Statistics is
important in any field.
We can use statistics in
society, transportation,
education, health,
business and etc. And by
this, we can improve,
prevent and cure those.

In what way? What do

you think? I think we can improve
those especially when we

problems in education. We
can identify the main
problem and have a move
to lessen those.

Very well said!

5 mins. Application Now, I want you to think

of the importance of
Statistics in travelling of
students to school. Ma'am, we can gather data
about the time of travel of
my classmates to school.
We can gather data about

idea? We can get the number of

study.
I think you learned about
our lesson for today.
5 mins. Generalization Now lets have a short
recap about the lesson
which is Statistics.
Yes, Juan? In this lesson, we gather
data by measuring the arm
span of my classmates and

our own way. Also, we
define statistics which is

VII. EVALUATION

1. What is statistics?

2. Choose three of your classmates and measure their height and weight. And organize it and present
the data in your own creative but accurate way.

3. What is the importance of Statistics in transportation?

VIII. ASSIGNMENT

1. Make a survey in your community or in school to find out how far students travel to come to school.
Make the best estimate using kilometres. Ask at least 40 students and present your data using different
methods.

2. Study about organizing and presenting data using the frequency table.
