Accessing Report Manager


Document Introduction
Overview

In this lab you will connect to the IBM InfoSphere Report Manager
appliance and complete the activities to view, create, search, run,
schedule, and save reports.

Hardware and Software required to complete this exercise

Laptop/Desktop Computer connected to the Education Virtual Lab


environment.

IBM InfoSphere Report Manager VM.

Preparation

Here is the required information for performing the lab activity in the
education virtual lab environment. Use this information to determine the
names and addresses that you will be using for this lab.

Note:

If you are not sure which addresses to use, please contact your
instructor.

Fill-in the information on the following table.

Here is the required information for performing the lab activity in the
education virtual lab environment:

Report Manager Appliance

Report Manager User Name: admin

Report Manager Password: password

SMTP Server IP: 10.177.177.253

SMTP port: 25

SMTP User Name: student**@edu.actifio.com

where ** is your student number

Document Purpose
Overview

The purpose of the document is to provide the learners with the exact
steps that they will need to perform while viewing, creating, searching,
running, scheduling, and saving reports.

Presentation Technique
This document contains screen captures of all the screens that the
students will be viewing during the Lab session and the corresponding
steps listed underneath the screen describing the action to be performed.
Additionally, there will be highlighted areas to bring focus to the activity
areas of the screen.

Steps to be performed
Part One: Accessing Report Manager

Instructions
1. Open Reports from the top-strip

2. The Report Manager Login page appears.

3. Enter your username and password (admin/password) and click the
LOGIN button.

Part Two: Configure SMTP Server

Instructions
1. From the Report Manager Dashboard, go to Manage >>
Configuration.

2. At the Configuration screen, provide the following information:

a. Server Name/IP: >> 10.177.177.253


b. Port: >> 25
c. User Name: >> student**@edu.actifio.com
d. Password: >> (not needed)

2. Click Save.

3. Test the connection by clicking on the Test button and providing


your email address as the recipient.

4. Click Submit and check your email for a test message.

Part Three: View a built-in Report

Instructions
1. From the Report Manager Dashboard, click on the Repository
button or go to View >> Repository.

2. From the Folders panel on the left-hand side, expand the IBM
Infosphere >> Reports >> Jobs folder and select the Backup Job
Summary Report.

3. The report opens in the Report Viewer. Review the report and
confirm that information for all the configured appliances is
displayed.

4. In the display pane, there is a set of Input Controls in the left


panel, set the following Input Control options

a. Select Appliance(s) >> Click the ‘None’ button and then select
your VDP-prod01 Appliance
b. Select Organization(s) >> ALL
c. Select Application Type(s) >> Click the ‘None’ button and then
select VMWARE
d. Select Application(s) >> ALL

5. Click Apply. At the bottom of the Display pane.

6. Review the Backup Job Summary report with the new filters you
set and confirm that only the filtered information is displayed.

Part Four: View a built-in Report

Instructions
1. With the report displayed, from the Report Manager Dashboard,
select the Save/Save As… icon.

Select Save As…

2. Supply a Name and Description for your report.

3. Leave the default Reports >> Jobs folder as the location.

4. Click Save.

5. In the Options pane, set the following Input Control options

a. Select Appliance(s) >> Click the ‘None’ button and then select
your vdp-prod01 Appliance
b. Select Organization(s) >> ALL
c. Select Application Type(s) >> Click the ‘None’ button and then
select VMWARE
d. Select Application(s) >> ALL

6. Click Save. and enter Student ## (Where ## is your student number).

7. To confirm your report has been created, click on the Repository


button or go to View >> Repository.

8. Confirm that your new report is listed.

9. Select your new report.

10. Select the Saved Values/Option you created earlier from the
dropdown list and click Apply.

11. Confirm that the information displayed in your custom report is


correct.

Part Five: Schedule and Email a Report to Report

Instructions
1. Click on the Repository button or go to View >> Repositor

2. Right click on your Student # Backup Job Summary report and


select Schedule… from the context menu.

3. Click on the Create Schedule button.

4. The New Schedule dialogue box appears.

5. Set the parameters as shown above:


a. Start Date: >> Immediately
b. Time Zone: >> US/ Eastern
c. Recurrence Type: >> None

6. Click the Parameters tab on the top right-hand side of the side and
then select your option from the drop-down list on the top left-hand
side of the screen.

7. Select the options from the dropdown menu on the top-left of the
screen. Choose the Option name that you created earlier.

8. Review the settings.

9. Click on the Output Options tab.

10. Under Formats: select >> PDF and uncheck any other formats

11. Under Output Destination: UNCHECK >> Output to Repository

12. Click on the Notifications tab.

13. Under Email Notification provide >> Your email address, Subject
line, and a short Message

14. Under Email Notification select >> Include report files as attachments

Click Save.

15. Create a name for your scheduled job and click Save.

16. You will see a confirmation that your job has been scheduled.

17. To run your scheduled job immediately, click on the Run Now
button.

Do not proceed to the next lab until directed by your instructor.
