CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION

The SIWES program which forms part of the academic standards in the various
degree programs for Nigeria Tertiary institution seeks to bridge the gap existing
between technology and other professional education programs in Nigeria.

1.1 MEANING OF SIWES

The student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) is the skills training which
form part of the approved minimum academic standard in various degree program
for all tertiary institution in Nigeria. It is the gap between practical aspect of either
engineering or science technology and other professional educational programs in
Nigeria tertiary institutions.

1.2 PURPOSE OF SIWES

The objective of SIWES is to enable every student who passed through university or
other institutions to acquire a practical knowledge of what he/she has learned.
Therefore it is compulsory for every student to satisfy the requirement in his/her
academic pursuit.

1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF SIWES

i. To provide an avenue for student in polytechnic to acquire industrial skill and


experience in their course of study.

ii. To prepare students for the work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.

iii. To expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and
machinery that may not be available in the institution.

1.4 BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION

NADDC was formed by Act No. 83 of 30th May 2014 from the merger of the
National Automotive Council and the Centre for Automotive Design and

Development Council as a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and

2.0 THEORECTICAL ASPECT OF THE EXERCISE

2.1 CONNECTION OF A POWER CABLE TO A SYSTEM

i. Remove the power supply shipping bracket; ensure that the power has been
reseated.

ii. While facing the rear of the system unit route the system power cord through the
cable retention bracket.

iii. Plug the power cord into the power supply.

iv. Plug the system power cords and the power cords for any other attached devices
into the alternating current (ac) power source.

2.2 REMOVAL OF A POWER CABLE OF A SYSTEM

i. Disconnect the power cable from the power source and from the power supply unit
you intend to remove and then remove the cables from the strap.

ii. Press the release latch and slide the power supply unit out of the chassis.

2.3 MICROSOFT WORD

Microsoft word is a word processing program that allows for the creation of both
simple and complex documents.

2.4 HOW TO TYPE USING MICROSOFT WORD

i. Start by opening Microsoft Word.

ii. Create a new document.

iii. Type within the dotted lines.

iv. Type where you see the cursor or insertion point.

v. Save your documents.

CHAPTER THREE
3.0 HOW TO PHOTOCOPY DOCUMENTS USING THE PHOTOCOPY
MACHINE

i. Turning on the photocopier.

ii. Place your documents on the copier.

iii. Select the number of copies needed.

iv. Select the color preference.

v. Select paper size.

vi. Press the copy button.

3.1 HOW TO FORMAT A SYSTEM

i. Back up your data.

ii. Open your windows settings.

iii. Click on update and security.

iv. Click recovery.

v. Click the get started button under.

vi. Click on remove everything.

vii. Click on remove files and clean drive.

viii. Click next on the warning screen.

ix. Click reset to format your pc.

x. Click on continue when the format is complete.

3.2 HOW TO INSTALL WINDOWS ON A SYSTEM

Place the windows disc in the CD/DVD drive or USB thumb drive into the back of
the computer. Turn on or restart the computer, as the computer starts up, it should

detect the installation disc or drive and show a message to press any key to boot
from CD or drive i.e select install windows.

3.3 EXCEL
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet developed by Microsoft for windows, macOS,
Android, IOS, and ipadOS. It features calculation or computation capabilities,
graphing tools, pivot tables, and a macro programming language called Visual
Basic for Application.

3.4 HOW TO EDIT A FILE ON EXCEL

Click File > Options > Advanced. Click Excel options and then advanced category.
Under editing options, do one of the following to enable edit mode, select the
allow editing directly in cells check box.
CHAPTER FOUR

4.0 HOW TO USE A SCANNER

i. Connect the scanner to your pc.

ii .Place the material to be scanned into the scanner, just as though you were using a
photocopier.

iii. Press the scan button on the scanner, which is the button to acquire a digital
image.

iv. Preview the scan.

v. Select the scan area in the scanner software.

vi. Set other options.

vii. Scan the image.

Viii. Save the image to disk.

4.1 HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT A SYSTEM

i. Define the symptom.

ii. Identify and isolate the potential source location of the problem.

iii. Replace the suspected sub assembly and test the unit thoroughly to be sure that
you have solved the problem.

iv. If you have not solved the problems start from step i.

4.2 HOW TO INSTALL NEW SOFTWARE IN A PC

i. Insert the disc into your pc, and then follow the instructions on your screen, you
might be asked for an admin password.

ii. If install doesn’t start automatically, check your auto play settings.

iii. You can choose auto play defaults for removable drives and memory cards.
SUMMARY

The one month student industrial work experience scheme in NADDC expose me
to know more in practical knowledge of excel, Microsoft word, how to use a copier
and scanner, how to install softwares and windows on a pc, how to connect and
remove power cable of a system.

CONCLUSION
The training experience is very mandatory and important for all students in tertiary
institution like science and technology, engineering and school of environmental
studies. It should be encourage at any time in all institutions of learning so every
student should take it serious for themselves.
