Blocking Your Scene!

This lesson plan template provides guidance for a lesson where students will create blocking for short scenes. Short Description of Lesson: Students will be creating blocking for a short scene. Using
teacher provided scripts, students will read, block and perform the scenes for the class. Classroom Layout and Grouping of Students: The classroom should be organized for groups of two and 4. The classroom should be open to allow freedom of movement. This includes the introductory assignments as well as the staging lessons.

Instructional Procedures
Lesson Set: Teacher will present this lesson as the final assessment of the blocking process unit. Techniques and Activities: 1. Teacher introduces the lesson 2. Each tutorial will be reviewed with the class through whole group instruction. 3. The blocking cycle tutorial is reviewed with the class in order to provide an overview of the process they are engaging in. 4. The Facts tutorial will be reviewed with the class in order to review stage directions. 5. Procedures tutorial will be presented to the class. Teacher will go through the graphic and discuss the popups with students. 6. the principles tutorial will then be viewed by the class. Students will be given the opportunity to test themselves on the computer in order to make choices in front of the class using the computer. 7. Teacher pairs students and gives them their scripts 8. In pairs, they decided on the blocking and mark the scripts 9. Teacher combines pairs and creates groups of 4. 10. Each pair gives a copy of their script to their group partners and directs the other pair using the blocking they have provided. 11. Students rehearse the blocking with the directors 12. Students perform their scenes for the class (using their scripts) 13. Class evaluates the blocking Lesson Closure: Upon concluding the performances, students will have a class discussion about which blocking worked best and why it worked. Adaptations for Special Learners: Pairing and grouping will be designed to provide all students the opportunity to work with multiple ability levels. Supplemental Activities: Extension and remediation: Students will be given extra time if the objectives require more class time. The tutorials will be available for student support throughout the process.

Assessment/Evaluation: Assessment will be informal throughout the process, providing the opportunity for reteaching at each stage of the process. The final evaluation will be the performance. Students will be graded on their written product (the marked script), as well as the performance by the actors of their scripts.
