STRAIGHT REPEAT
The straight repeat is probably the most common
and simplest repeat type. In this repeat, the motifs
form a grid following horizontal and vertical lines.

BRICK REPEAT
In a brick repeat, the motifs are moved halfway
horizontally to the next image, creating more
seamless appearance.

HALF-DROP REPEAT
This is my favourite repeat types. With this repeat,
the motifs are dropped halfway vertically to the next
motif. It creates a lovely seamless repeat.

TOSSED/RANDOM REPEAT
This is also another favourite of mine. In this repeat
type, the motifs are randomly tossed on the grid with
no discernable pattern.

MIRRORED REPEATS
In mirrored repeats, the motifs are flipped either
along the vertical or horizontal axis.

DIRECTION
When designing a repeat, it's a good idea to keep in
mind how you envision the design being used. A
pattern can either be single direction,
multidirectional or tossed randomly in any direction.

directions. This provides the
most use for the end buyer.
Multidirectional
Motifs are facing either right way
up or upside down
