The document summarizes research on the primocane raspberry cultivar 'Autumn bliss' grown in the Troyan region of Bulgaria. It finds that 'Autumn bliss' has good growth and realizes its biological potential through long-term fruit bearing. Phenological observations showed vegetation started earlier in the second year. Additionally, intermediate fruiting occurred between the spring-summer and summer-autumn harvests, extending the harvesting period. Harvesting periods lasted up to 27 days for the spring-summer harvest, 20 days for the summer-autumn harvest, and 32 days for the intermediate harvest. Correlations were found between plant characteristics and yield. The cultivar produced average-sized fruit over multiple harvests.

Fruit bearing of the primocane raspberry cultivar ˈAutumn

blissˈ in the Troyan region

INTRODUCTION Research Institute of Mountain Stockbreeding and Agriculture, Troyan, Agricultural Academy of Bulgaria, Sofia
Raspberry is an economically profitable small-sized fruit crop with important biological and economic qualities, which is successfully grown in
the mountain and foot-hill regions of Bulgaria. The interest is determined by its extremely rich biochemical composition, including
ellagitannins, phenols, flavonoids, lignins, organic acids, etc. having a beneficial effect on human health. In recent years, there has been an
increased interest in the cultivation of primocane raspberry cultivar, because of their later period of fruit harvesting, determining their higher
purchase price, necessitating the application of different agrotechnics of plant growing. Selection for premocane cultivars is a significant
advance in raspberry production because it provides the opportunity for a longer harvest period and continued provision of fresh fruit to the
market (Boycheva, 1999; Goulart and Demchak, 1999; Boycheva, 2001; Hansena et al., 2021).
The aim of the present study is to observe the phenological calendar, some vegetative and reproductive performances and the correlations
between them in the primocane raspberry cultivar Autumn bliss grown in the Troyan region.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The scientific experiment was conducted in 2018-2019 in a collection plantation of the Research Institute of Mountain Stockbreeding and
Agriculture in Troyan. The planting scheme is 3.00/0.50 m, as the experiment was laid out in three replications, each one has one linear meter of
the intra-row area of the plantation.
A phenological calendar was made and the following phenophases were recorded - beginning of vegetation; beginning of blossoming; full
blossoming; end of blossoming; beginning of fruit ripening; mass fruit harvesting; end of fruit ripening; end of vegetation.
The following vegetative and reproductive indicators were reported - average number of shoots per a linear meter; average height of shoots (m);
average thickness of shoots (mm), measured at 10 cm from the soil surface; average fruit weight (g); average yield 1/m2 (kg).
The methodology for studying plant resources in fruit plants was used to report the indicators (Nedev et al., 1979). The data were processed by
correlation analysis as the software product MS Excel - 2010 was used.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
The beginning of vegetation in the first year of the experiment was registered at the end of March - 25.03. (Figure 1 and Figure 2).
The fruit ripening phenophase was recorded relatively early on 25.05, and the harvesting began at the end of the month on 30.05. In the
summer-autumn harvest, the fruits began to ripen on 06.08, and the harvests were registered on 11.08 and continued until the end of the
month on 27.08., with a duration of the harvesting period of 17 days. In the following year, the vegetation started relatively earlier, compared to
the previous year, at the beginning of March on 05.03. (Figure 1 and Figure 2).

Figure 1. Phenologicals phenophases of the raspberry cultivar Autumn bliss. Figure 2. Fruit harvesting period.
The ripening of the fruits was recorded at the beginning of June on 06.06, and the harvesting began on 13.06. and continued until the first ten
days of the following month on 08.07., with a duration of 26 days.
Intermediate fruit bearing was recorded, between the spring-summer and summer-autumn harvests, as a result of the development of shoots
from the basal buds of the biennial shoots, which blossom and form fruits. The ripening of the fruits of this type of fruit bearing was registered
on 19.07, and the harvesting began a few days later on 24.07 and continued until 24.08. The tracked harvesting period was just over one month
(32 days).
In the summer-autumn harvest, the fruits began to ripen in the middle of August on 15.08., the harvests were registered on 19.08 and ended in
the first ten days of the following month on 07.09.
For the studied period, the average number of shoots was 14.67, which confirms the good shoot-forming ability of the cultivar. The fruit size
during the research period, expressed as average values for the three harvests, was greater than the spring-summer (2.85 g), the intermediate
(2.69 g) and the summer-autumn harvest (2.04 g), which characterizes them as average-sized. The analysis of the results shows that the average
fruit yield for the period is significantly greater than the spring-summer harvest (0.54 kg/1m2), followed by the summer-autumn (0.20 kg/1m2)
and the intermediate harvest (0.15 kg/1m2).
