QUARTER 4 MODULE 6 Science 7

The document discusses ways for humans to reduce the effects of their activities on natural resources. It suggests conserving water by changing daily habits like taking shorter showers. It also recommends saving energy by walking or biking more instead of driving. Recycling and reusing products are also presented as ways to reduce waste. The document provides specific examples of how to protect natural resources in daily life.

QUARTER 4 MODULE 6

WAYS TO REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF HUMAN

ACTIVITIES ON NATURAL RESOURCES
EXPECTATIONS
In this module, you are about to learn what a typhoon and determine its difference from a
cyclone. As a student, it will help you realize and contemplate on our environment and become aware that
Nature is God’s wondrous gift of creation.
This module will discuss the ways to reduce the effects of human activities on natural resources.
After the learning sessions, you are expected to:
1. analyze how humans can contribute in reducing the effects of human activities;
2. suggest ways to reduce the effects of human activities on natural resources; and
3. integrate ways on protecting our natural resources from the effects of human activities.

PRETEST
Direction: Read and analyze the following questions and write the letter of the best answer in your
answer sheet.
1. Managing the Earth’s resources sustainably is called ________.
A. Conservation B. Recycle C. Reduce D. Reuse
2. It is a resources that is found freely in nature.
A. Deforestation C. Natural Resources
B. Global Warming D. Non-renewable Resources
3. If there were lots of garbage in the lakes and oceans, how are you going to help in reducing its effect in the
environment?
A. Conduct a clean-up drive C. Ignore what others do.
B. Don’t swim on the lake and oceans. D. Throw more garbage.
4. Which among the following is a way in reducing the effect of human activities on natural resources?
A. Burn fossil fuels. C. Pollute the air using chemicals.
B. Conserve water. D. Use aerosol sprays.
5. Which among the choices portrays saving energy and electricity?
A. Replace all your old appliances with better and efficient ones.
B. Switch to cloth bags and reuse them instead of plastic bags.
C. Planting more trees on the forest.
D. Avoid dynamite fishing.

RECAP
In your previous lesson, you have learned the different human activities affecting the atmosphere.
Check on the appropriate column if the given example is brought about by human activity or a natural
occurrence in nature.
Human activity Occurrence in nature
1. Surface mining operation
2. The use of power plants
3. Volcanic eruptions
4. Garbage in landfills
5. Smokes from factories and cars

LESSON
Human activity has a major effect on our environment and the ecosystem and the planet as a
whole have changed dramatically as a result of efforts to support the growing population. The humanity
is more than ever threatened by its own action because the natural resources are being depleted at an
alarming rate, while the human activity is considered the number one cause of the global climate change which
is the greatest challenge the human race has ever faced in history. However, as long as development
reduces the negative impact of human activities on the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions,
waste, consumption of natural resources, creating a retreat for wildlife
The world is evolving at a faster rate, as things are becoming more and more advanced, there is a less
attention being given to our environment. The industrialization is turning our planet into a sudden
destruction and we are using natural resources carelessly without paying heed to the fact that they are
non-renewable. Natural resources are those resources which can be found freely in nature. It is very
useful for living organisms and does not necessarily require the help of humans to generate or produce.
These resources comprise lands, rocks, forests, water, fossil fuel, animals, minerals, sunlight, and air.
There are various ways to conserve these resources. We can reduce the use of natural resources
through the following ways:
1. CONSERVE WATER - Water is indeed an
essential natural resource which is not
that abundant in supply. Almost all
the world is facing a water crisis in
different regions and conserving water
has become the need of the hour.
We can bring change by changing your
2
daily habits. Do not let water flow while brushing teeth or washing utensils. Use buckets instead of s
howers or you an take short showers. In watering the plants, use ample water and do not over water
your garden.
2. SAVE ENERGY - The majority of our energy
is produced by burning fossil fuels and
we see that once we start saving energy,
we will naturally save our fossil fuels.
We can save energy by walking more
or riding a bicycle instead of using a
motorbike or riding a car. Use public
transportation rather than driving a car
all alone. Most importantly, turn off the
lights and fan when not in use. Replace
all your old appliances with better and efficient ones. These little steps will have a huge impact
on energy consumption.
3. REUSE, REDUCE and RECYCLE
Recycling is very important in our world
today that there were lots of piled garbage
around. Always remember to reduce, reuse
and recycle your old products or materials.
Switch to cloth bags and reuse them instead
of plastic bags. Recycle plastic products to
reduce the usage of plastic.
Conservation is using and managing the Earth’s resources sustainably. We always have to bear in mind
that renewable resources are replaced at the time and within the natural cycles and process of nature.
Preservation, on the other hand, means maintaining the present state or conditions of areas, which so
far undisturbed by human activities.

ACTIVITIES
Module 6 - Activity 1: GREEN TEAM WARRIOR

you can do to reduce the effects of human activities.
Select from the choices in the box of word pool. Choices on the ways to reduce the effects of human
activities can be repeated twice.

Human Activity choices: Ways to reduce the effects of human activities

2. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
3. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
WRAP UP
Let’s summarize what we have learned, answer the activity that follows. Fill in the cloud with the
harmful effects of human activities and fill in the star with the appropriate ways to reduce the effect of
human activities on the natural resources. Choose your answer from the word pool.

reduce waste plant more trees climate change

choosing fuel efficient cars global warming
air pollution limit the use of sprays and chemicals ozone layer depletion

VALUING
Reducing energy consumption and increasing use of renewable energy sources through increased
efficiency to enhance fuel efficiency for vehicles and reduce electricity consumption by household
appliances.
These are some suggested ways on how we can protect our atmosphere:
• Preserve existing forest and plant more new trees
• Reduce waste and don’t burn it
• Choose fuel efficient cars/ drive less
• Invest on the use of wind and solar energy and other renewable energy sources
• Built and use more efficient cars to minimize burning of fuels, better use local transport(bikes,
walking or use carpool )
• Recycle plastics
• Limit the use of sprays and chemicals

From the given suggestions, the learners can propose some laws on protecting the atmosphere.

POST TEST
Direction: Identify the following statements as to what ways in reducing the effects of human activities on
natural resources. Write if it is to conserve water, save energy or reuse, reduce and recycle.
