LEARNING COMPETENCY TRANSFER
T1. Apply trigonometric Transfer Goal: Students will be able to independently use their learning to apply the trigonometric ratios to solve real-life problems.
ratios in solving real-life
problems using self-made Performance Task:
clinometer.
Measuring the Height of your House
Goal: Determine the height of your house by using trigonometry.
Materials:
For making improvised clinometer: protractor, drinking straw used for soft drinks, string and tape.
For actual measurements: improvised clinometer, meter stick, scientific calculator.
Procedure:
1. Make a clinometer at home. Visit the following Web site for instruction: http://www.thealy.com/project
%20Maths/Trigonometry/clinometer.htm
2. Measure the angle of elevation to the roof of the house.
1. Choose 1 member in your family to stand a few meters away from the house. Then he/she will use straw
part of the clinometer to look at the edge of the roof.
2. You will read the angle in clinometer.
Note: The angle of elevation is always acute. If the angle is measured obtuse, make adjustment. How?
Remember that if you are looking at an object at eye level, the angle of elevation should be zero.
Value Integration: The student develops creativity in making measuring tool and patience and critical thinking in solving and
finding the height of the house involving trigonometric ratios.
