EE104 Homework 4

Ten points for each question. There are ten questions.

1.
Solution:

We combine 30𝜇𝐹, 30𝜇𝐹 𝑎𝑛𝑑 60𝜇𝐹 capacitors in parallel to get 120𝜇𝐹. The
120𝜇𝐹 capacitor in series with another 60𝜇𝐹 capacitor gives 40𝜇𝐹.
40𝜇𝐹 + 50𝜇𝐹 = 90𝜇𝐹, 40𝜇𝐹 + 80𝜇𝐹 = 120𝜇𝐹
The circuit is reduced to that shown below:

360 444
120𝜇𝐹 capacitor in series with 90𝜇𝐹 gives 360/7𝜇𝐹 . 12 + = 𝜇𝐹 =

63.43𝜇𝐹. 63.43𝜇𝐹 capacitor in series with 12 𝜇𝐹 gives 𝜇𝐹 = 10.09𝜇𝐹.

Solution:

𝐿𝑒𝑞 = 6 + 10 + 24 ∥ [5 ∥ (8 + 12) + 6 ∥ (8 + 4)] = 16 + 24 ∥ (4 + 4) = 22𝑚𝐻

Solution:
Switch at A:
The capacitor charges to 12V when the switch is at position A.
Switch at B:
The 500 Ω resistor in series with a 2-mF capacitor and an initial charge on the
capacitor of 12V.
Switch at C:
The 1 kΩ resistor in series with a 2-mF capacitor and an initial charge on the
capacitor of 𝑉𝐶 (1).
