Lesson: Comparative and Superlative - comprehension
GRADE: 4th
TIME: 45 minutes

Aim: the students will use the comparative and the superlative of different adjectives in order to talk
about various topics

Objectives: Students will be able to:


- use correctly the comparative of short or irregular adjectives in order to compare different things
- use appropriately the superlative of short or irregular adjectives
- practise the productive skills (writing, speaking) and the receptive skills (listening)
- work in groups
- use the new vocabulary in appropriate contexts

Aids / Materials: textbook, worksheets, video – projector, audio and video clips

The T starts by stating that there are
several types of adjectives in English:
short, long, irregular, which all have
different ways of being used in the

Activity2: Practice
The T gives the Ss worksheets which
contain exercises in order to practise
the use of the comparative and the
superlative of adjectives.
Exercise 1: “Complete as in the
example: funny – funnier- the
funniest”.
The T asks one student at a time to
come to the blackboard and write the
comparative and the superlative of
each of the adjectives listed there. All
the other Ss are required to write the
correct forms down.
Exercise 2: “Write correct sentences
with a comparative adjective using the
prompts: the film/the book (short) The
film is shorter than the book.”
The Ss are explained what the exercise
is about, after which they are asked to
do it individually. Then the T checks
the Ss’ answers orally.
