ABSTRACT

The project that had been developed is represented to the HGH Medical Laboratory Management
System by Hargeisa Group Hospital. The project will be known as the HGH Medical Laboratory
Management System This project consists of sixth parts which are Login Form part, Main Form
which contains two logins Admin login and Normal User login, Login Registration Form
contains four modules Patient Registration, Tests, Result and Reports of the patient also Admin
Registration Form contains One Module which are User Registration that has save, update and
delete.
This report contains the introduction, methodology, analysis, design, implementation, testing,
and project conclusion of the project.

The project methodology, used is Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Problems of the
current system of the HGH Medical Laboratory Management System had been analysed and
from that requirement analysis had been made. This system is developed by using Visual basic
C# programming language and SQL server database. To develop the real system, designs had
been made that covers the system architecture, user interfaces, and database design.

1.1 Introduction

Medical Laboratory Technology presents the development in the medical laboratory science. In
many countries, there are two main types of labs that process the majority of medical specimens.
Hospital laboratories are attached to a hospital, and perform tests on patients. Private (or
community) laboratories receive samples from general practitioners, insurance companies,
clinical research sites and other health clinics for analysis. For extremely specialized tests,
samples may go to a research laboratory. A lot of samples are sent between different labs for
uncommon tests. It is more cost effective if a particular laboratory specializes in a rare test,
receiving specimens (and money) from other labs, while sending away tests it cannot do.
In many countries there are mainly three types of Medical Laboratories as per the types of
investigations carried out.

1. Clinical Pathology: Haematology, Histopathology, Cytology, Routine Pathology.

1.2 Background

this system will be developed using web based technology to make the several modules in that
system more structured and systematic beside can make the lab administrator easier than before.
Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) language will be used to develop the system interface and
connect the interface with the database that will store recorded data. So, this 'method will make
the user easy to access by using web browser application.

Lab administrator will record each task into the system to enable data to be stored into the
database and to make the troubleshooting work easier if there are errors when recording the data.
1.3 Problem Statements

Problem statement is the description of an issue currently existing which needs to be addressed.
This problem provides the context for the research study and generates the questions which your
research aims to answer.

The laboratory management system (manual system) has several problems. The problems that
have been facing for a past year are:

1) Hard to manage the task in different location by using manual system. For example, the
user such as staffs and students must go to the resources room to booking the lab.

2) The recorded data easily lost if the lab administrators use the manual system. So, this issue
will create another big problem to the lab administrators.

3) Lab administrators hard to troubleshoot and repairing lab equipment if there are certain
devices damage in labs when using manual system.

1.4 Purpose of a study

The medical laboratory management system is built for the purpose of effective and clear data
saving and manipulating. The medical laboratory management system project highly minimize
time and resource by which, searching the reports and data you can get the data in quickest time.
And almost the resources are wise used since most actions are done on the medical laboratory
management system. Some of the resources minimize the manpower and paper work. The
feature use to storing data in a secure way.

1.5 Project Objectives

It is the user friendly application which reduces the burden and helps to manage all sections of
laboratory like patient reports and Billing etc., which improve the processing efficiency. It deals
with the automating tasks of maintaining of Bills. Billing management is the key process.
Including safe data store about patient reports as well as fast searching, delete and update of
reports. The laboratory management system is easy for use so the user can do actions without
ambiguities. The main Objectives of the MLMS is making the Laboratory organizations
computerized by creating neat work through minimizing or eliminating wasting of time as
well as removing the resources such as papers for data saving since knows a days is paper
based.

1.5.2 Specific Objectives

1) To develop the manual lab management system into web base

lab management system.

2) To develop several modules in online Lab Management System

such as equipment booking, warranty and items disposal, and lab

booking.

3) To help the lab administrators easy to manage the data, troubleshoot and repairing
damage equipment in laboratories.

1.6 Scope

The application can be used in any Hospital that has medical/laboratory within the hospital
for maintaining patients’ tests and test report detail by customizing some of the features.
