Assignment One (20 marks)

In a group of maximum 5 students, you are required to study, design and
configure a Local Area Network (LAN) that contains the relevant components.

1) You are a Junior Network Engineer studying CCNA course.

You are given a task by your supervisor to design a campus
network. Unfortunately, you don’t have the enough
knowledge to do the job. Thus, you will need to understand
the existing network architecture which someone has already
designed. You want to make use of Sunway’s library and
computer lab to understand how to design the network. Thus,
you need to find out the current network topology and
architecture of the computer networks. You have the tasks
below:

a. Draw out the existing network architecture of

computer labs and library in Sunway includes: 10 IP
addresses, subnet mask and the default gateway
address. You need to provide a details network
diagram for the two departments. Describe briefly your
findings. Present them in Visio diagram is
recommended. Ping these PCs and show the screen
shoot of your ping results.

b. Subsequently, design a new campus network which

can support 4 departments (e.g. finance, human
resource, registry or etc). Each department should
have at least 10 workstations. Use private addresses
for your design and show one public address which
connects to Internet Service Provider. You should use
classless IP address in your design. You can show
network configuration that you learnt to configure the
devices. Explain your design.

c. In short, the devices in the new network must

communicate and connect all the network elements
(i.e. router and switch). Also, the workstation must be
able to access a simple website hosted on the Web
Server. The successful of the setup will earn
maximum 10%. For each of the devices, analyze the
system design. Explain the functionality of each
device.

2) Your newly designed network is now under attacked, could

you suggest a method so that you can monitors network

(AUG 2023)
and/or system activities for malicious activities or policy
violations or security? Explain any security mechanism that
could possibly protect the attack.

Warning: Do not attack PCs in computer labs and library. You may be
prosecuted if you do so. It is your responsibility not to cause any
disruption to Sunway’s campus network.

Assignment Two

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

 This assignment will contribute 10% to your final grade.

 This coursework is a group assignment (maximum 5 students) with individual mark.
 Presentation of the assignment is compulsory. Any student absent from the
presentation will be marked zero.
 Make an appointment with your lecturer to present your work in the lab on and before
assignment deadline. You are given 15 mins (including Q&A) presentation time.

1) From Assignment one Q1(b)&(c), choose a team leader and

present your new network design as a group. Each member must
present the work. Tell us the reason why you design your network
as presented. You can use lab’s router and switch to present the
work. If you know how to use packet tracer (network simulator),
you may do so. You don’t need to present your entire design but
the major part of it. For example, you don’t need to show 20
workstations but only show two units.

2) You are required to show the configuration set using the

command “show run”. Also, the workstation must be able to
access all the routers and switches on the network. The
successful of the setup with excellent presentation will earn
maximum 10%.

(AUG 2023)
 Setup a default gateway.
 If needed, provide inter-vlan connectivity and able to connect to different
network. Make sure your router starts automatically after rebooting.

PART 3: Switch

You are required to configure a switch with the following basic requirements:

 Setup access ports on switch and connect to different devices.

 Make sure your switch starts automatically after rebooting.

(AUG 2023)
 DELIVERABLES

You are required to:

 SUBMIT A FINAL REPORT.

o The report must mainly show how you configure each component
as well as the challenges you may have faced during the
implementation and their workarounds. Whether you have
configured the components using GUI or a command-line, please
take clear screenshots to show your configuration details for each
of the requirements of each component.
o The same final report must be submitted as a printed hard-copy
as well as a soft-copy via email to [email protected]
o Please see Appendix A for the report template.

 PRESENT YOUR DEMO.

o Each group member has to present their work. Specifically,
since there are four major parts in this assignment, each group
member must present the configuration details of one of these
components. The additional feature(s) may be presented by the
group leader, or collaboratively by the group members.
o Students will be quizzed during their demonstration on the knowledge of
the configuration.
o Failure to demonstrate your coursework will result in a fail.
Additionally, members who fail to present their parts will lose their
presentation marks (10 marks) as well as the allocated marks for
the respective component (see appendix B).

 SUBMIT AN EMAIL WHICH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

o Your personal details, course, etc.
o Your final report
o The configuration files of each component, shell scripts, etc.
