 Why not Study in Sri Lanka?

My A/L’s results are not satisfactory to get in to a Sri Lankan Government University and there are only
limited government university placements in Sri Lanka. And even the degree completion time would be
minimum 4-5 years, and technological facilities in Sri Lankan universities are not up to current world
standards. Concerning these difficulties, I decided not to continue my higher studies in Sri Lanka.

Why did I choose Australia as my educational destination?

Australia has some of the best institutions and universities in the world. No wonder Australia is the third
most popular foreign student destination in the English- speaking countries. Australia has huge
educational standards as the government pays a lot of attention in managing the education system.
Courses in Australia are updated on a regular basis with feedback from industry professionals to ensure
that our skills and knowledge are up to date, enhancing our ability to compete for employment.
Universities, colleges, and institutions in Australia will offer students the practical skills and knowledge.
The main reason I choose to study in Australia since world-class educational institutions, world class
training facilities, exceptional professors and excellent student and support services incredible nature,
vibrant cities, multicultural environment, wonderful weather. Making one of the safest places for
international students.

Why did I choose a Melbourne Polytechnic University?

Melbourne Polytechnic is a vocational education and higher education institute located in Melbourne,
Australia predominantly in the northern suburbs but also in the south with a campus at Prahran. It has
seven campuses located at Preston, Collingwood, Epping, Fairfield, Heidelberg, Prahran, Greensborough,
training sites at Broad meadows, and country training facilities at Eden Park, Yan Yean and Ararat. The
University was established in 1912. Melbourne Polytechnic is the largest provider of primary industry
training in Victoria and one of the largest in Australia offering a diverse range of courses from practical
short- courses to some bachelor degrees. Melbourne Polytechnic is a global vocational education and
training provider and offers qualifications in partnership with institutions in China, Hong Kong,
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, The Republic of Korea, India, Pakistan, Columbia and New Zealand. In addition,

 Choosing Business Management as my major?

Business degree is a great career path that will help me to achieve my dream. I dream of running my
own business one day. Have a certain vision on my mind, actually a couple of ideas. One is a restaurant,
in my city, because I have many friends who are great chefs and can make something creative. Another
idea is a Cinnamon plantation, I am a cinnamon lover and see a lots of opportunity on this marker.
People will always drink and eat cinnamon, and there will always be room for quality cinnamon growers
and producers. Before I proceed with any of these two ideas, I have to learn how to run a business, how
to manage both people and resources.

After finishing my three-years degree, I will be applying for the 2-year study work permit where I have
the opportunity to gain graduate related work experience in Australia. Moreover, Australia has a wide
variety of geographic and lifestyle settings where I would gain practical experience in different types of
companies. I strongly believe that the degree which I will get from the Australian University will provide
me with good opportunities in global workplace and enhance my career.

Returning to Sri Lanka

I want to come to Sri Lanka after my three years of Post Study Work (PSW). There would be more
opportunities to find a jobs in Sri Lanka with my PSW’s experience, Since Australian degrees are widely
reputed. After completion of my degree I will be return to Sri Lanka because my husband is living in Sri
Lanka and, is working at reputed government organization. We, Sri Lankans are very culturally sensitive
regarding marriage. Since this is my first experience in a foreign country, I am obliged to have this
protection. On the other hand, we got married in last December and we both are not willing to separate
for longer period. As we know, Sri Lanka is a developing country and we have huge potential in every
sector in the present day. I will be returning back to my home country with quality academic and work
experiences to start my professional career in the business management field. I will first prefer to work
in the business and administration department in of the organization like in the post of administrator,
human resource adviser as well as I can apply for mid-level of managerial post in the various corporate
houses such as Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and financial and banking institutions like Bank of Ceylon,
NSB Bank etc., with a monthly pay scale of RS. 100,000 to RS. 150,000/-. With the growing experience
and network and connections with the industrial personnel and experts. I will gradually work to start up
my own business in the near future and give full effort in the field of business and management and also
contribute towards the development of the economy of my country, I am looking forward to achieving
my study permit to study Bachelor of Business at Melbourne Polytechnic University, with the solve
motive to enhance my career and wings to fly start career ahead.

Family Background and Financial Support

I am the eldest child in our family of four. And I am a married woman and my husband name is Mr.
Gihan Pramodya Prasad. As per the financial arrangement of my proposed education, my parents and
my husband will sponsor for my study and stay in Australia. As per my family, my father’s Jackson
Ariyarathna and my mother’s Renuka Padma Poththawela will play sponsor roles for me throughout the
course time in Australia. My father has worked in Dubai for almost 12 years as the marine engineer and
is currently working in marine company in Sri Lanka. He also owns a rental house in Panadura and he
owns five cinnamon lands in Sothern province. My mother is a house wife who has always been there
for us to support us in every possible way and guided us to make the right decisions in life and help my
father to manage his properties and look after our family affectionately. My husband is working at
Ceylon petroleum corporation as the refinery technician. He also running the vehicle buying and selling
business. I have a younger sister who studies, expecting to face O/L s in 2025. She also expecting to her
higher overseas after completing her A/Ls. I have done my O/Ls in Pothupitiya Maha Vidyalaya and I
done my A/Ls in Panadura Agamathi Girls school while my sister studies St. Anthony’s girls school,
situated near our school. My family and Husband have sufficient assets and is financially stable to assist
me until I complete my studies in Australia.
