Cjmo 2023

The document describes a two-day junior math olympiad with 6 problems each day. Day 1 problems include finding triples of positive integers with a prime number property, proving angles are equal or supplementary for a geometry problem, and finding the maximum number of eye contacts between chicks turning to face each other in a circle. Day 2 problems include proving a line passes through a fixed point for a geometry construction, finding composite integers with a divisor property, and determining functions from complex numbers to complex numbers with given properties.

6th Christmas Junior Math Olympiad (Day 1)

March 13, 2023

CJMO 1. Find all triples of positive integers (a, b, p) with p prime and

ap + bp = p!.

CJMO 2. Let ABC be an isosceles triangle with AB = AC, and denote by H the
orthocenter of ABC. Define N as the midpoint of arc AHC (on the circumcircle of
△AHC), and let D be a point on AB such that DN is parallel to AC. If E is the reflection
of D across AH, then show that ∠DN B and ∠EN C are either equal or supplementary.

CJMO 3. In a barn, 100 chicks sit peacefully in a circle. Initially, each chick faces
either the chick immediately to her left or the chick immediately to her right. Suddenly,
each chick starts turning towards her other neighbor (at possibly variable but nonnegative
speed) until she faces her. Two chicks make eye contact if at some point in time, they face
each other simultaneously. What is the maximum possible number of pairs of chicks that
make eye contact during the process (including at the beginning and end)?

Time: 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Each problem is worth 7 points.
6th Christmas Junior Math Olympiad (Day 2)

March 13, 2023

CJMO 4. Let A and B be fixed points on a circle ω with center O, and let X be a
variable point on segment AB. The circumcircle of △AXO intersects the circle centered
at X passing through B at two points P and Q. Prove that as X varies on AB, line P Q
passes through a fixed point.

CJMO 5. Find all composite positive integers n for which there exists a permutation
d1 , . . . , dk of the divisors of n such that

gcd(d1 , d2 , d3 ) = gcd(d2 , d3 , d4 ) = · · · = gcd(dk , d1 , d2 ) = 1.

CJMO 6. Determine all functions f : C → C such that

• there are only finitely many complex numbers x with f (x) = 0, and
• for all complex numbers x, y, z satisfying f (x) = yz, we have zf (x + y) = yf (x + z).

Time: 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Each problem is worth 7 points.
