Popular Alias’

 LIMITS
o Best to start off with 12, 9 inch
o Metric size is 279.4, 215.9 mm
 APBOX
o 1=visible, 0=off
 APERTURE size=10-15
 PICKBOX size=5
 DDE = Direct Dimension Entry is default in line command
 UCSICON
o N resets UCS icon to lower left corner
o UC opens dialog box to change settings
 OOPS regenerates erased objects
 REDO also returns past modifications
 PDMODE point style, or node settings in command line,
o usually use 2 or 3
 DDPTYPE opens dialogue box for point settings so the point types can be chosen by looks
o If a minus sign (–) is typed before commands that have a dialogue box, it will not open,
changes are made through the command line
 PolyEdit will create a polyline out of separate lines (joins them)
o PE
o Select polyline or [Multiple]:(select one of the lines in new polyline)
o Object selected is not a polyline
o Do you want to turn it into one? <Y>
o Enter an option [Close/Join/Width/Edit vertex/Fit/Spline/Decurve/Ltype
gen/Reverse/Undo]: J
o Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 5 found
o Select objects: enter
o 4 segments added to polyline
o Enter an option [Open/Join/Width/Edit vertex/Fit/Spline/Decurve/Ltype

o Seeing “Open” in final line as the first option means the command was successful.
 ST = Text style manager
 SDI=Single Drawing Interface
o 0 = allows to open more than one drawing at a time
o 1 =only able to open one drawing at a time (must save before opening another)
 DIMSTYLE or D = Dimension style manager
 MIRRTEXT
o =0 will not mirror text (able to read mirrored text)
o =1 will mirror text (makes text unreadable)

 Creating Sectional Lines, Use PL to make the line with a Width of .03 or so (to suit)
o PL then select point to start
o H for half width
o Start point = 0.0
o End point width = .10 or so

 IMAGEATTACH
o Import a .jpg so a tracing can be made over the original drawing. When finished just
detach original .jpg and you’re left with a drawing of it.
 ARRAYCLASSIC gives old school array dialogue box in 2013
o Download and install SP1 for AutoCAD 2012

 OVERKILL Deletes duplicates

 NAVBARDISPLAY turns navigation bar on the right on and off (suggest off)
o “0” turns off
o “1” turns on

 AUTOCOMPLETE “guesses” your inputs, this can be annoying (suggest off)


 VIEW opens dialog box for new view in paperspace layouts
 MT = multiline text
 DT = single line of text

 %%U will underscore text


 %%O will overscore text
 %%C will insert the diametrical symbol (Ø)
 %%D will insert the degree symbol (˚)
 %%P will insert the plus minus symbol (±)

DIMENSIONING
 DIM, STATUS
o will show present conditions of dimensioning settings
 DIMLIM = tolerance settings (on or off)
o 3 different ways to tolerance dimensions
 Symmetrical (+/– 0.001)
 Limits Shows high and low allowable sizes (1.001/0.999)
 Deviation Shows separate allowable tolerances (+0.001/–0.001)
 DIMTDEC
o Shows number of decimal places in tolerances
 3 is common
 4 is more precise
 DIMTFAC (0.8)
o When DIMTEXT =1
 Means dimensioning size factor is 80% of dimtext
 0.8 Suggested
 DIMTP = Plus amount of tolerance
 DIMTM = Minus amount of tolerance
 DIMUPT
o Allows user to position dimension anywhere
o When turned off dimension is in the middle of extension lines

 DLI = Linear
 DAL = Aligned
 DAN = Angular
 DRA = Radius
 DDI = Diameter
 DCE = Creates centre point or mark

 DIM
o HOR=horizontal dimensioning
o VER=vertical dimensioning
o Dimensioning this way allows text to be added
 Adding text before the < > symbol adds the text before the dimension
 Adding after the < > adds the text after the dimension

 DIMOR = Ordinate (baseline) dimensioning
