Exporting an ASCII File from the TSC2 Using Survey Controller

Introduction ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) files are
used extensively to exchange data between electronic devices.

This guide describes how to export a coma delimited ASCII file that
contains data in the following format:

Point name, Northing, Easting, Elevation, Point code

Note: For GPS users, a coordinate system is required so that grid


coordinates (Northing, Easting) can be exported.

Step Action Display

1 • Turn on the TCS2 controller.

• Tap on Survey Controller


from the Windows (or
Programs) menu.

This starts the Trimble Survey


Controller program.

2 From the Main menu of the Trimble


Survey Controller program:

In this example, we will be


exporting points from a job titled
ASCII Job.

• Tap on the Files icon.

This opens a pop up menu.

3 In the pop up menu:

• Tap on Import/ Export….

This opens another pop up menu.

4 In the pop up menu:

• Tap on Export fixed format


files.

This opens the Export fixed format


files screen.

5 In the Export fixed format files


screen:

• Select Comma Delimited


(*.CSV, in the File format
field.

Note: There are additional export


formats available but we will use the
comma delimited “CSV” (comma
separated values) format.

• Enter a name for the


exported file in the File
name: field. In this example
the file is called ASCII
Job.csv.

5 This step continues from the


previous page:

The following fields define in what


order the exported data will appear
in the ASCII file.
In this example we will be exporting
data in the order of Point name,
Northing, Easting, Elevation, Point
code. Therefore we will have to
change the order based on the image
displayed on the right (notice that
the current export order is Point
name, Easting, Northing,
Elevation, Point code).

To change the export order:

• Tap on the down arrow


beside the Northing field
and change the selection to
Field2.

• Tap on the down arrow


beside the Easting field and
change the selection to
Field3.

• Tap on the Accept button


when finished selecting the
export order.

This opens the Select points screen.

6 In the Select points screen:

In this screen you have many ways


of selecting which points in the job
you wish to export. In this example
we will export all of the points.

• Tap on All points.

This exports the data into a file


called ASCII Job.csv and a message
appears alerting you of the
successful transfer.

• Press the OK button to


accept the message.

This closes the message window and


returns you to the main screen.

Where is the The exported ASCII file resides in the Trimble data folder in the TSC2 data
file? collector.
