Assignment (20 Points)

Instructions: For this graded assignment, you will evaluate the effectiveness of a
health-related decision you have made in the last month.

Choose an unhealthy decision you have made recently that could affect your overall
well-being, and then evaluate that decision based on the six-step process you learned about
in Lesson 1.4. You may concentrate on your eating or sleeping habits, risky behavior choices,
personal safety decisions, or anything else you can think of that directly affects your health.
The purpose of this assignment is to get you to evaluate and improve your choices in order to
maintain optimum health.

Record your answers in the space provided:

Step 1: Describe the situation that required a decision. Then, state the unhealthy decision you
made, and explain the decision-making style you demonstrated when you made that decision.
(3 points) ​I haven’t been exercising regularly

Step 2: List the possible decisions you might have made in that situation, including the one
you made. You must list at least THREE choices, including the decision you previously made.

Choice 1: ​Come up with an exercise routine

Choice 2: ​Start Running

Choice 3: ​Start biking


Step 3: Share your list of possible decisions with a trusted family member or another
responsible person. Summarize what the people you shared your list with advised you to do.
(3 points) ​They advised me to try to set up a routine instead of just doing biking or running.

Step 4: Use a set of questions to help you evaluate your choices. (6 points)

Will the decision result in promoting health? Why or why not?

Choice 1: ​Yes, it would result in promoting health because it is a form of exercising.

Choice 2: ​Yes, it would result in promoting health because it helps my respiratory system.

Choice 3: ​Yes, it would result in promoting health because I would be working on my leg
muscles.

Will the decision result in promoting safety? Why or why not?

Choice 1: ​It helps with jeeping you healthy and in shape which means it keeps you safe

Choice 2: ​Yes, it would result in promoting safety because it helps with preventing
cardiovascular disease

Choice 3: ​Yes, it helps with exercising your legs and keeps you in shape.

Will the decision result in following or breaking any laws? Why or why not?

Choice 1: ​No it will not because it’s just doing a workout, nothing illegal.

Choice 2: ​No it will not because it’s just running

Choice 3: ​It’s just biking so it’s not illegal.

Will the decision result in showing respect for yourself and others? Why or why not?

Choice 1: ​It might earn respect because it shows that I want to take care of myself

Choice 2: ​It shows that I care about taking care of my body so yes
Choice 3: ​Yes because it shows that I put myself as a priority

Will the decision result in actions that responsible adults would want? Why or why not?

Choice 1: ​Yes because it shows that I can be responsible for myself

Choice 2: ​Yes because it shows that I can have responsibilities

Choice 3: ​Yes because they might think that I can take care of myself

Will the decision result in actions that show good character? Why or why not?

Choice 1: ​I think it would show good character because it shows that I care about myself

Choice 2: ​Yes, because it would show that I like to be healthy

Choice 3: ​Yes, because it shows that I want to be better at exercise

Step 5: Decide which decision is most responsible or the best choice, and make your
decision. (1 point)

My Decision: ​I choose choice one because it is more of a workout instead of just doing
one thing I can do all three.

Step 6: Act on your decision and evaluate its results. If you made the same decision as you
did prior to completing this activity, why did you do so, and what will the consequences be to
your health? If you made a different decision, how did implementing your decision affect your
overall health? What benefits (or unintended consequences) did you experience or will you
experience in the future? (4 points) ​I made this decision prior to completing this because I
thought it would be the most healthy and responsible decision.
