1. FONCTION - APPLICATION
The maximum and/or minimum DC voltage relays (TUG) are used for precision
measurements of low value DC voltages. These are particularly suite to:
− Monitoring the excitation current of rotation machines (min and max, by
measuring the voltage at the terminals of a shunt, . 0.1 V or 0.3 V range).
− All DC voltage monitoring purposes (tachometer dynamo, battery, etc., 1 to
300 V range).

2. DESCRIPTION - DIMENSIONS
The TUG plug-in mounted in a TROPIC housing with a 5 module width (101.1 mm).
Electrical connections consist of 6.35 mm clips and screw terminals.
These units come in the following versions:
1. Minimum DC voltage relay
TUG - one minimum threshold one instantaneous output TUG1010
one time-lag output TUG1011
TUG - two minimum thresholds one instantaneous output per threshold TUG2010
one time-lag output per threshold TUG2012
2. Maximum DC voltage relay
TUG - one maximum threshold one instantaneous output TUG0110
one time-lag output TUG0111
TUG - two maximum thresholds one instantaneous output per threshold TUG0210
one time-lag output per threshold TUG0212
3. Min/max DC voltage relays
TUG - one minimum threshold one instantaneous output per threshold TUG1110
one maximum threshold one time-lag output per threshold TUG1111

3. PRINCIPLE
The version described below is the TUG1111 relay (one max DC threshold and one
min DC threshold, both with time-lag outputs). Operation of the other version can be
easily deduced from the operation of this relay.
The input voltage is attenuated by a factor which varies according to the voltage
range. This voltage is applied to a filter (cut-out frequency of 1 Hz, attenuation of 12
dB/octave). The filter output level is applied to two comparators (one minimum, one
maximum) which generate an output once the signal value reaches a reference value.
These thresholds can be configured through adjustment devices on the front panel.
The comparators control two time-lags which can be set through adjustment devices
on the front panel.
The time lag circuits control, at the end of the set time lag, two output relays and two
memory type LEDs.
A pushbutton is used to reset the memories associated to the LEDs.
A test pushbutton (option) is used to simulate a fault to activate the detectors, time lag
circuits and indicator lights. During the test, the output relays are locked.
NOTES : - With a two threshold relay, each threshold has its own detector
and its own time lag. The same input level is applied to the two
thresholds.
- For a relay with time lag outputs, there is no instantaneous
output (see diagrams on following pages).
- For a DC power supply the isolation between the auxiliary
power supply and the measurement is ensured through a
DC/DC converter.
