2. Discuss ethical leadership and its importance in supporting organisational values (in 80 to 90
words).
Ethical leadership means that individuals behave according to a set of principles and values that
are recognized by the majority as a sound basis for the common good. These include integrity,
respect, trust, fairness, transparency, and honesty. Ethical leadership must be a conscious
decision.
Ethical leadership is leadership that is directed by respect for ethical beliefs and values and for
the dignity and rights of others. It is thus related to concepts such as trust, honesty,
consideration, charisma, and fairness.
5. List four (4) styles of leadership and describe the impact of each of the identified styles on
organisational culture (in 200 to 300 words).
✓ Autocratic,
The phrase most illustrative of an autocratic leadership style is "Do as I say". Generally,
an autocratic leader believes that he or she is the smartest person at the table and
knows more than others. They make all the decisions with little input from team
members.
This command-and-control approach is typical of leadership styles of the past, but it
doesn't hold much water with today's talent.

The phrase most indicative of this style of leadership (also known as "visionary") is
"Follow me." The authoritative leadership style is the mark of confident leaders who

This style describes a very driven leader who sets the pace as in racing. Pacesetters set
the bar high and push their team members to run hard and fast to the finish line.

Charismatic leadership is defined by a leader who uses his or her communication skills,
persuasiveness, and charm to influence others. Charismatic leaders, given their ability to connect
with people on a deep level, are especially valuable within organizations that are facing a crisis
or are struggling to move forward.
7. Discuss three (3) strategies that can be used to encourage employee participation in decision-
making (in 10 to 40 words each).
✓ Form a committee. Once a company reaches a certain size, it can be hard to hear
everyone's voice.

painful or annoying, hiding certain things can complicate many situations.
9. Explain the importance of leadership in ensuring that work health and safety legislation is met
(in 80 to 100 words).
Effective health and safety performance comes from the top; members of the board have both
collective and individual responsibility for health and safety. Directors and boards need to
examine their own behaviours, both individually and collectively, against the guidance given -
and, where they see that they fall short of the standards it sets them, to change what they do
to become more effective leaders in health and safety.
