Anghelita is a college graduating student. She has a boyfriend named Anghelito. They are going
to celebrate their 1 sari. (one-year anniversary) as a boy/girlfriend relationship and it is going to
be tomorrow. Anghelito invited her to go to Cebu on a paradise island where they will be
staying for 2 nights. A night before that, Anghelita was really in deep thinking and disturbed.
Will she go with Anghelito or not?

From the case above, how are you going to help Anghelita by using the Hedonic Calculus
by Jeremy Bentham? Show your computation by using the 7 elements of Hedonic calculus. Each
element must be scored 50 pts. (7 x 50 = 350 pts in all). Divide these 50 pts between
Pain/Suffering and Happiness/ Pleasure. It depends on you how many points will you give per
element. Example: Intensity: I give 40pts for pain/suffering and 10 pts for Happiness or
pleasure. Do not give even score points such as 25 for pain and 25 for pleasure. Try to argue or
resonate with yourself why you give such a score. After you give your points per element, get
the total score of pain/suffering and pleasure/ happiness in each of the 7 elements. Take note
of the score between pain/suffering and pleasure/happiness. Whichever has a higher score shall
be your basis for Anghelita on what will her decision to go or not to go. After this, you give your
advice to Anghelita either she goes or not with Anghelito.

Every year with your partner brings new memories, joy, and accomplishment and
anniversary is a time to celebrate the things you love most about each other. It is a great
opportunity to look forward to the years to come every couple. Based on my computation
using hedonistic calculus, I suggest to Anghelita to go on Cebu together with her boyfriend to
celebrate their Anniversary since it is very important event to the both of them. It was also
mentioned in the problem that she is a college graduating student so it means, she and
Anghelito are old enough to know what is right and what is wrong. However, she can also weigh
her decision from asking her parents to know what is good for her. At the end of the day, it is
the memories and opportunities that they will cherish.
