Introduction to Computer
Question No 03: Define the followings:
Computer:
Computer is an electronic machine which processes raw data (input) and convert it into information (Output).
Memory:
Memory is an electronic holding place. It holds data and instructions that can be accessed by CPU.
Software:
Software is the set of instructions given to the computer to perform a specific task.
Hard disk:
Hard disk is the permanent storage device of computer. It is also called hard drive.
Motherboard:
Motherboard is large circuit board in computer. All other components of computer are connected with it. It
is made up of silicon.
Processing Operation:
The operation in which a computer performs some actions on the data according to the instructions is known
as processing operation.
Example: Addition of two numbers.
Data Information
Data is the collection of facts and figures Processed data is called as information
Example: students name, roll no, marks Example: student grade or position
Hardware Software
Hardware is the physical parts of computer Software is the set of instructions to perform a

FILE FOLDER

files and even other folders. They are used to organize data.

Whenever you click on My Document, My Computer or Recycle Bin Icon it always brings
you a window on the screen. So in this ways we can say that a window is the basic building block of
Micro Soft Windows because everything opens in a separate window.
5. TASK BAR:
Task bar is placed at the bottom of the screen in the Micro Soft Windows. It includes Start
Button, Quick Launch Toolbar, Task buttons and Notification Area.
vii. How can a user create a folder using right click menu?
Answer:
Right click anywhere on the desktop.
Right click menu appears.
Move mouse over NEW
Click he folder option
The new folder appears displaying the temporary name (New Folder)
Type a name of the new folder for example: Umar and press enter
A folder with the name of Umar has been created on the desktop.
viii. What is the importance of folders? Explain briefly with an example.

Suppose Ali is looking for his Math book from a pile of books. He will have to shift
through the pile of books to find Math book. The same thing can be happen if someone does
not use folders to store data. Now Ali can arrange the books in the bookshelves like:
