Week 3

The lesson plan summarizes a 9th grade science class on geothermal energy. The class will last 1 hour and 15 minutes. Students will identify sources of geothermal energy, describe how it is used to generate electricity, and recognize its global applications. Activities include arranging words into an illustration, explaining their work, and completing a worksheet. The teacher will also lead discussions on renewable energy and how geothermal energy can be used in the Philippines.

School: Gallanosa National High Grade Level: 9

School
Teacher: Joebert G. Cantillo Learning Area: Science
Time and Date: 1 session Quarter/Week/Day Q3W3D1

I. OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARD: The learners demonstrate an understanding of
volcanoes found in the Philippines.

PERFORMANCE The learners shall be able to participate in the

STANDARD activities that reduce risks and lessen the effects
of natural phenomenon such as volcanic eruption.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES Illustrate how energy from volcanoes may be

tapped for human use. (S9ES –IIIc-d-29)

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The Learners should be able to:

1. Identify sources of geothermal energy
2. Describes how geothermal heat resources
are tapped to generate electricity
3. Recognize the importance of global
applications of geothermal energy technology
II – CONTENT: Topic/title GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

IV. Procedure
ELICIT The teacher shows scattered letters on the
presentation alongside the image that correspond
to the word to guess the correct term that is
related to the topic.
ENGAGE The teacher asks the students about what comes
in their minds when they hear the terms
“RENEWABLE” and “SUSTAINABLE”. Teacher
leads the discussion towards how geothermal
energy can be tapped for human use in the
Philippine context.
EXPLORE The teacher groups the students into three
and let the students arrange the words into
their proper place in the illustration about
Geothermal Energy.

EXPLAIN Each group will have one volunteer who will

explain their work on the class. They will also
give insights about the terms that they organize.

ELABORATE Teacher clarifies misconceptions surrounding

geothermal energy.
Lead the discussion in relating the location of the
Philippines to the utilization of geothermal energy.

The teacher proceeds discussing about the

sources of geothermal energy, describe how
geothermal heat resources are tapped to
generate electricity and recognize the
importance of global applications of
geothermal energy technology.
EVALUATE
Answers the worksheet (See attachment).

EXTEND The teacher will ask the students to do further

researching on the advantages and
disadvantages of the Geothermal energy and do
a defense if they agree or disagree on the
installation of Geothermal Power Plant in the local
town of Irosin.
