The New Evangelization
The holy Roman Catholic Church has sounded the call to the New Evangelization. This is an
urgent call of the highest importance, given the dire urgency of the times. A tsunami of evil is
overwhelming the whole world. The assault on faith, family and life is in full force.
The reality is that few Catholics actually live out their Christian faith. Many do not go to Sunday
Mass. Many go but do all sorts of sinful things outside of the Church. For those who do good,
many do not go deeper in their faith life. Even further, Catholics are being lost at an alarming
rate to fundamentalists, sects and cults, all antagonistic to the Catholic Church.
Thus, there is a dire need to re-evangelize Catholics.
The Live Christ Share Christ Movement
The lay response to the call to the New Evangelization is the Live Christ Share Christ Movement
(LCSC), a movement for evangelization and renewal that is based in the parish. It is a work by,
for, and in behalf of the parish. Its basic goal is to bring Catholics back to God and back to the
Church.
Its mission is to meet Christ, live Christ, and share Christ.
To meet Christ is to have a personal encounter with Jesus through
daily prayer, setting aside time to be with Him so that we can grow
in our personal relationship.
To live Christ is to grow in our relationship with Him, to enter more
deeply into our life with him, by living a life of holiness and by being
a true disciple.
To share Christ is to evangelize others, to proclaim the good news
of salvation in Jesus to others, so that they too might meet him.
The Life in Christ Seminar
LCSC’s banner program is the Life in Christ Seminar (LCS). It is an integrated course intended to
lead seminar participants into a renewed understanding of God’s call to them as Catholic
Christians.
The LCS has one basic purpose: bringing participants to a personal relationship with Jesus as
Savior and Lord, and getting them started on living a truly spirit-filled Christian life.
The LCS is for all – active or lapsed, mature or an infant in Christ, rich or poor, young or old,
married or single, of whatever nationality or culture. It is however particularly effective in
reaching nominal Catholics and the grassroots.
The LCS is comprised of 5 sessions, each session having the basic ingredients: prayers, songs,
teaching, group discussion, fellowship. The topics are based on the sermon of Peter on the day
of Pentecost, when he proclaimed the gospel and 3,000 people accepted the message of
salvation.
Content of the LCS
The topics of the 5 sessions are as follows:
#1 Jesus the Messiah
This talk speaks about the dire situation in the world today. The world has turned away
from God, and only God can make things right. Thankfully, God has a wonderful plan for us,
that is why He sent His son, Jesus.
#2 Called to Witness
This talk speaks about what is expected of us, if we are to truly experience the fullness
of life in Jesus. We must strive to live out the two greatest commandments – love of God and
love of neighbor.
#3 Repentance and Faith
This talk speaks about our response to God’s call. As we fall far short of the authentic
Christian life, we need to repent and put our faith in Jesus.
#4 Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Aside from the talk, this is a prayer session. The call to the Christian life is difficult, not
to be done on our own strength. We need the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit
provides the power from above that enables us to lead a normal Christian life.
#5 Growing in the Spirit
This talk speaks about the 5 tools to growing in the Christian life. These are prayer,
study, service, fellowship and the sacraments. This paves the way for people to become
witnesses who can credibly share the gospel.
The LCS is just the first step in bringing people fully back to God and back to the Church. After
the LCS, there should be a lifetime of formation, of which there is much to offer in the Church.
LCSC itself offers its formation programs and 4 basic pillars for renewal and revival in the
Church.
THE 4 LCSC PILLARS
LCSC is also ready to provide more formation as needed. It has 4 basic pillars that supplements
its work in the community:
LIVE PURE
Live Pure proclaims the gospel of PURITY.
THE CHALLENGE: The culture of death will more and more bring young people into sexual
licentiousness. The next generation is seriously under threat. How can we protect and empower
our young people to live for Christ?
LIVE PURE is a movement for chastity for the youth. Young people are helped to strive for
purity of mind, eyes, speech and body, as they live out the values of human dignity,
relationships, waiting and love.
LIVE THE WORD
Live the Word proclaims the gospel of PERFECTION.
THE CHALLENGE: Some Catholics are very weak on knowing and using the Bible, the very word
of God. But ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of Christ. How can people grow to Christian
perfection without the Bible?
LIVE THE WORD is a program that promotes the LITURGICAL BIBLE STUDY method of
appreciating and studying the scriptures. It is a practical method of doing Bible study in small
groups, as well as in the family setting.
LIVE LIFE
LIVE LIFE proclaims the gospel of PROSPERITY.
THE CHALLENGE: Life and prosperity go with having a covenant with God. On the other hand,
the culture of death brings with it economic woes, hitting the poor the hardest. How can we
defend and promote the culture of life, thereby ensuring the prosperity that God desires for His
people?
LIVE LIFE is an advocacy for faith, family and life. It staunchly opposes reproductive health
forces that promote a culture of death.
LIVE FULL
LIVE FULL proclaims the gospel of POVERTY.
THE CHALLENGE: Most of the people of the world are poor, and living beneath their dignity as
children of God. But there are enough resources in the world to satisfy the needs of all. How
can Catholic Christians share what they have so that there is no one in need, so that all may be
fulfilled?
LIVE FULL is about building the Church of the Poor. As the icon of poverty is hunger, then the
opposite is a full stomach. More than that, this work looks to building parish-based
communities through holistic development, providing shelter, health, education, livelihood and
values formation. In the model of the first Christian community, the haves share with the have-
nots, thus also sharing in the blessing. “Those who give alms will enjoy a full life.” (Tb 12:9b).
