ALTERNATIVE CEMENT USING CHICKEN BONES

Chicken bones as an alternative cement

for making Concrete.

Nowadays, Cement is used as a primary component in making concrete, which is

used for building. However, most types of cement are very expensive and that causes

most of the people to use materials made out of weaker materials such as wood and

thus weak foundation and could be easily destroyed. Many lives are lost due to weak

foundation of their houses and buildings when disaster strikes.

Portland cement is the most common type of cement and is commonly used to

create concrete by pasting with water that binds with sand and gravel to harden.

Portland cement can be manufactured using limestone, shells, clay, silica sand, etc.

All of the aforementioned materials are quite uncommon these days and therefore

expensive. Cement has components which are calcium, silicon, aluminum, iron and

other ingredients.

Chicken is the most common type of poultry in the world, for it is very easy and

cheap to raise them compared to other poultry such as cattle and hogs. Most fast food

chains and restaurants have Chicken at their menus because it is a popular choice for

all kinds of customers. At the end of the day, the only left in Chickens are their bones.

It is very hard so it can’t be eaten by us humans. Most of Chicken bones are thrown

away as food wastes. They either go to landfills or to a recycling or composting

center. If they are put in a landfill, they will stay their for many years until they rot.

Chicken bone is a food waste that contains Calcium, which is essential in making

Cement. Calcium is also the main reason why Chicken bones are very hard.

Engineering Goal

The researchers’ goal is to create concrete using Chicken bones as the alternative

for cement to create an eco-friendly concrete with a cheaper price and higher

availability .

What prompted you to do the study?

The researchers were prompted to do the study to help make more sturdy

buildings to avoid poverty and loss of lives using Chicken bones commonly found in

the environment.

Hypothesis

Chicken bones can be used as an alternative for commercially produced cement.

Expected outcomes

The researchers expect that at the end of the study, a cement can be made that is

somewhat sturdier than wood.

Significance of the study

The significance of the study is to make more cement using food wastes in the

environment to help prevent poverty and loss of lives.
