Mug Cake Recipes

Here are four tried and tested recipes for Mug Cakes! Many more can be found
online!

General Tips
• You will need a microwave-safe mug, a small plate and a fork for these recipes.
• Mugs with straight sides are easier to work with.
• Milk can be dairy, goat, soy, almond, etc.
• Regular and gluten-free flours both work, however the texture is a bit different
• Oven instructions are available if a microwave is not

Chocolate Brownie in a Mug


Ingredients
• 1/4 cup (60 mL) Flour • 1/4 cup (60 mL) Water
• 1/4 cup (60 mL) Sugar • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) Oil
• 2 tablespoons (30 mL) Cocoa • 2 drops Vanilla
• Pinch Salt
• Pinch Cinnamon

• Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, salt and cinnamon together in a microwave-safe mug.
• Add water, oil and vanilla and stir with a fork until the batter is smooth.
• Place the mug on the plate and cook in a microwave on high for 90 seconds. Cook
for an additional 10 seconds if centre of brownie is not set.
• Let cool 5 minutes before eating.
• Add optional toppings if desired (caramel, chocolate sauce, ice cream, etc.)

Chocolate Mug Cake


Ingredients:
• 3 tablespoons (45 mL) Flour • 3 tablespoons (45 mL) Milk
• 2 tablespoons (30 mL) Brown Sugar • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) Oil
• 2 teaspoons (10 mL) Cocoa Powder • 1 drop Vanilla
• 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Baking Powder • 10 Chocolate Chips
• Pinch Salt

• Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt together in a microwave-
safe mug.
• Add milk, oil and vanilla and stir with a fork until the batter no longer has lumps.
• Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
• Place the mug on the plate and cook in a microwave on high for 45 seconds. Cook
for an additional 15 seconds if centre of cake is not set.
• Let cool for 5 minutes before eating.
• Add optional toppings if desired (caramel or chocolate sauce, ice cream, etc.)
Vanilla Mug Cake
Ingredients:
• 4 tablespoons (45 mL) Flour • 4 tablespoons (45 mL) Milk
• 2 tablespoons (30 mL) Sugar • 1 tablespoon (15 mL) Oil
• 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Baking Powder • 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Vanilla
• 1 tablespoon (15 mL) Sprinkles
(optional)
• Mix flour, sugar and baking powder together in a microwave-safe mug.
• Add milk, oil and vanilla and stir with a fork until the batter no longer has lumps.
• Sprinkle with sprinkles (optional).
• Place the mug on the plate and cook in a microwave on high for 90 seconds. Cook
for an additional 15 seconds if centre of cake is not set.
• Let cool for 5 minutes before eating.
• Add optional toppings if desired (caramel or chocolate sauce, ice cream, etc.)

Cinnamon Sugar Mug Cake


Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons (90 mL) Flour • 1/4 cup (60 mL) Milk
• 2 tablespoons (30 mL) Sugar • 2 tablespoon (30 mL) Oil
• 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Baking Powder • 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) Vanilla
• 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Cinnamon
• Pinch Salt

Layering/Topping:
• 1 tablespoon (15 mL) Sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) Cinnamon

• Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt together in a microwave-safe
mug.
• Add milk, oil and vanilla and stir with a fork until the batter no longer has lumps.
• Sprinkle with topping.
• Place the mug on the plate and cook in a microwave on high for 60 to 90 seconds.
Cook for an additional 10 seconds if centre of cake is not set.
• Let cool for 5 minutes before eating.
• Add optional toppings if desired (caramel or chocolate sauce, ice cream, etc.)

Alternative Method
• Prepare mixture in a bowl.
• Pour into the mug, alternating with the cinnamon-sugar mixture to create a layered
cake. End with the last of the cinnamon-sugar on the top.
