Recognizing vehicle number plates is a difficult but much needed system. This is very
useful for automating toll booths, automated parking system ,signal breakers identification
and finding out traffic rule breakers. Here we propose automatic vehicle entry/exit system
using vehicle number plate recognition system that automatically recognizes vehicle number
plates using image processing. The system uses the output image of the camera’s keept and
the system processes to detect any trace of number plates on the input image. On sensing a
number plate in the image given ,it extracts the number plate part from the image. Processes
the extracted image using OCR and extracts the number plate number from it and record the
time at which the vehicle entered. Then after leaving the parking facility the image from
another camera is fed into the system based on the time duration they have parked the amount
will be calculated ,then the system displays the net amount should be paid with respective
vehicle number. Thus we put forward a fully functional vehicle number plate recognition
system using python code.
