CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter includes the research design, respondents of the study, the instruments that will
be used in conducting the study, data gathering procedure and the statistical treatment of data.

Research Design
Descriptive-Correlational Research Design will be used to this study. It measures the
effectiveness of Curfew Ordinance No.16-2008 on reduction of juvenile delinquency of Barangay
Wawa, Pinamalayan through organizing, analysing, and interpreting the data from the people’s

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study are fifty (50) randomly selected residences of Barangay
Wawa, Pinamalayan. Respondents were chosen through the use of Slovin’s Formula

N
n= 2
1+ N e

Where:
n= sample size
N= population
e= margin of error

Table A. Distribution of the Respondents

Respondents Population Sample
Male 2,35O 25
Female 2,247 25
Total: 4,597 50

Research Instrument
A self-made questionnaire is the gathering device to be used in obtaining the data needed to

Pinamalayan Maritime Foundation and Technological College, Inc: and Academic Dean; a Senior
High School Principal; and an instructor in Senior High School and College Department.

Scaling and Quantification

To quantify the mean responses on effectiveness of Curfew Ordinance No.16-2008 on
reduction of juvenile delinquency of Barangay Wawa, Pinamalayan, the researcher will apply the 5-
point rating scale as follows.

Weighted mean will be used to describe the effectiveness of Curfew Ordinance No.16-
2008 on reduction of juvenile delinquency. The formula is presented as follows:

Weighted Mean

To test the magnitude of relationship under study, Pearson’s Product Moment Coefficient
Correlations or Pearson’s r will be used. The formula is presented:

n ∑ xy −( ∑ x )( ∑ y )
r=
√ ¿¿

Where:
r =¿ Pearson’s r
n=¿ no. of cases
∑ x =¿ sum of all the x values
∑ y=¿ ¿ sum of all the y values
∑ x y=¿ sum of all the product of x and y
∑ x 2=¿ square of all the sum of x’s
∑ y =¿ square of all the sum of y’s
2

¿ sum of all the squares of all y’s

¿ sum of all the squares of all x’s
