Leadership & Funding Model

Team
CEO: Elsie
Elsie is passionate about everything that Come As You Are addresses. As a student
studying in the same environment as Come As You Are participants, she can relate to the issues of
perfectionism that many “Wheaties” face. High achievers breed high achievers but when work
ethic spirals into an all-encompassing perfectionism mentality, something needs to change. Due
to how prevalent perfectionism is on campus, Elsie is extremely motivated to serve as the CEO
of this Nonprofit.
Elsie has had years of experience in leading teams, delegating tasks, and developing
strategies to meet NPO goals. As CEO Elsie will help the board and team members of Come As
You Are properly execute the NPO’s strategy. As CEO, she is capable of recruiting the right team
members through her skills in leadership and development. Elsie is connected with a majority of
the faculty at Wheaton College and has exceptional communication skills to bring light to the
opportunity for involvement in this NPO.

Monitoring & Evaluation Director: Deanna

Deanna Bricker, a Wheaton College sophomore, is the right person to lead as the
Development Director because she enjoys making a difference with her skill set: analysis used in
monitoring and evaluation. She is very organized and her interpersonal skills make those who
report to her feel well supported and held accountable for the important tasks they have.
Deanna advances our mission in profound ways. Without Deanna, we wouldn’t have an
organized method of assessing program outcomes and impact. Deanna is up to date with how all
programs are running through the continual monitoring of attendance records from workshop
events, small groups, and counseling sessions. She keeps up to date on all partnerships between
professors and counselors committed to Come As You Are, making sure the numbers stay
consistent. Deanna ultimately advances our organization’s mission by assessing if a real impact
has occurred from our programming.
Deanna has a lot of experience from previous jobs in data analytics. She has conducted an
extensive amount of market research during an internship on foods and how the product sells
based on various changes in how it's marketed. Instead of being the professional who chooses
how a product should be marketed, Deanna takes great delight in assessing how successful a
product is. Deanna is pursuing any experience that measures the impact of established programs.

Programs Director: Liv

Liv is a great choice for the leadership role of programs director as she truly thrives in her
ability to organize well. She is qualified in facilitating large group events, and in doing so can
manage logistics in really high stress environments. Through her role as programs director, Liv
will provide research and extensive planning to ensure healthy development within each program
that is provided. She will also take care of roles essential to staffing, such as hiring, mentoring
and training individuals to ensure that they are of the best fit for Come As You Are.
While Liv’s devotion to management within this department is clear, her experience in
providing leadership as a director is well respected amongst many. She has time and time again
produced results that exceeded expectations through orchestrating events in regard to emotional
needs through creative and artistic outlets. She takes pride in her judgment in regard to providing
2

a clear and concise schedule that ensures the success of steady long term and short term goals.
Liv incorporates a positive and efficient attitude in high stress environments; she prioritizes
being relatable and understanding in high stake circumstances all while setting high expectations
for the result of the best possible outcome. Liv is thrilled to work with an organization like Come
As You Are, as this gives her a chance to use her gifts and preferable judgment to actually bring
the process of fighting perfectionism to life.

Marketing/Communication Director: Shannon

Shannon is the right person for the Marketing/Communication Director position because
she is passionate about combating perfectionism and speaking to people exactly where they are
at in order to get them involved and start the growth process. She is able to connect with the
target audience because she is their peer and in their demographic, minimizing barriers that
separate Come as You Are and the Wheaton College student body. Given her ability to collect and
analyze data, Shannon is able to evaluate and reorganize marketing strategies for maximum
engagement. She is also familiar with necessary software, allowing her to create both written and
visual content.
Through marketing and communication, Shannon will contribute to the overall mission of
Come as You Are in a variety of ways. First, if no one knows of the events happening on campus,
no one will attend. So, the marketing messages distributed across a few key platforms directly
ties to the involvement in the organization, such as attendance of workshops and small groups. In
addition, Shannon’s work with other team members and direction from the board will set the
identity of the organization in the minds of the public, furthering Come as You Are’s mission and
reach. Lastly, Shannon will be able to embody the very mission of the organization through
curating and publishing the testimonies of those at Wheaton College and those who volunteer,
ultimately normalizing the innate imperfection knitted into each of us.
Shannon’s credentials, skills, and experience include her status as an upperclassmen and
Communicator major, experience in past marketing roles, understanding of the Wheaton College
student body and campus culture, and knowledge of programs such as Canva, Adobe InDesign,
Google Docs, and social media platforms like Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, and
LinkedIn.

Board of Directors
President/Chair: Bob Goff
Bob Goff has been appointed President/Chair of Come As You Are because he is
well-equipped spiritually, experienced in founding and leading a nonprofit organization as well
as for-profit industries, respected in many fields, well connected, and passionate about the cause.
Goff is skilled in managing logistics as well as people, causing him to successfully oversee not
only the scheduling and planning of board meetings but also the interpersonal aspects of the
meetings and following up on discussed projects. His strength in individualization engages the
board members in the workings of the organization without calling for blind trust in his work.
Goff will contribute to the mission and success of the organization by acting as a
respected leader who supports the other members as individuals as well as group members,
which encourages group cohesion and a non-judgmental space for those to securely speak their
mind and creatively problem solve without fear while simultaneously vision casting. He will
come alongside other board members but also lead them through planning board meetings and
3

using that time effectively to push for decisions and vision-cast for the future of the organization.
Working with the CEO will also be useful in pushing the mission forward and minimizing the
stakeholder gap.

Vice-Chair: Mrs. Dr. Smith

Dr. Smith has been appointed as the Vice-Chair of Come As You Are because she is
organized, vision-minded, and highly capable. Mrs. Dr. Smith has strong organizational
capabilities and has served on a nonprofit's board before. In addition, her level of academic
achievement shows drive and capabilities of leadership, thoughtfulness, and a level of expertise
needed for running a successful board. Dr. Smith’s other qualifications include her strong
interpersonal skills, ability to negotiate, and her clear, critical thinking.
Mrs. Dr. Smith will contribute to the mission and success of the organization because she
will offer a unique and much-needed perspective to the board. By offering second opinions, new
voices will be heard and programs reevaluated to ensure the organization’s alignment with their
original mission and vision. In addition, she will offer professional support and assist the
president in some of his specific responsibilities, such as vision-casting, encouraging members to
engage, and overall board scheduling. Mrs. Dr. Smith will also be able to lead board meetings
and take over the role of president if and when needed.

Secretary: Mary
Mary Smith is connected to Wheaton College as a parent who sent her 5 kids to complete
their undergraduate education through the institution. We chose her as the Secretary of Come As
You Are because she has achieved the necessary skill set to efficiently gain and provide others
with the knowledge of the organization's records and all related materials. She is detail-oriented
and able to keep a system for efficient records and review of minutes. With prior experience as a
secretary, she is able to effectively develop and maintain systems for optimal streamlining
without sacrificing accuracy. Mary is also trust-worthy, ensuring the organization that the
important documents are stored securely away. She has exemplified herself as a great resource in
regard to all of the important information that keeps this organization alive and well.
Without Mary, the mission of our organization would not be met. She keeps all board and
team members held accountable to come to scheduled meetings and conferences as the point
person who handles administrative scheduling and communication. Mary has a clear idea of
where the organization has been and where it is going because of the years serving as a board
member with the role of taking notes on the decision making rationale in the organization. Come
As You Are wouldn’t run smoothly without Mary and would fail to meet its mission without her
coordination of all communication efforts.

Treasurer: Tim
Tim was ultimately chosen for the position of secretary because of his keen awareness on
financial deadlines and governmental regulations an NPO must follow. Tim has done it all. He
has worked in Human Resources as a Risk Management professional and for Better Business
Bureau, enforcing reporting of NPO activities and spending.
Tim is key to our organization staying successful and on mission. Tim is the primary
person who stays informed on the organization's fiscal situation. He keeps Come As You Are in
line with appropriate NPO regulations through ensuring that every annual audit is performed by
4

certified public accountants and that taxes are filed and government documents are submitted on
time. Lastly, Tim comes to board meetings with financial reports for the board on a regular basis.

Perfectionism keeps all affected from living their best life. It is a daily struggle that can
oftentimes be crippling. As clinical psychologist Anthony Robinson stated, students need to have
5

the understanding that if they “don’t meet the standards set, that doesn’t say anything about
them, and they shouldn’t be interpreting their self-worth based on whether or not they get an
‘A’.”
Funder’s investment ultimately leads to restoration from perfectionism, impacting
students’ self-perception, their perspective on their workload, and relationships campus-wide.
Investing in Come as You Are is ultimately an initial investment into the mental and emotional
wellbeing of over 2000 students, with many more to come as years go by. Through normalizing
and practicing the innate imperfection woven into humankind’s DNA through workshops and
faculty-student small groups as well as providing connections to professional counseling, a
tangible difference in the confidence and freedom students feel will come into effect. Our team
will collect data on the impact of our programs through surveys taken by participants before and
after joining, and we’re assured that our research-based programs will bring into fruition a sense
of restoration in the students as they form new-found confidence and freedom, enabling them to
tackle responsibilities because they feel far less pressure. Empowered with self-compassion and
reaffirmed that their worth is in Christ rather than results, students will be on the journey of
mental and emotional healing.
As students continue to grow in understanding of all’s inter-woven imperfection, the
Wheaton College culture will shift. Come as You Are exists to see a long-term campus-wide
difference in the amount of pressure felt and perfectionism expected by their peers. Our goal is
for participants to leave our programs with a revamped outlook, knowing confidently that they
have so much to offer the world just as they are. With this in mind, involved students will
graduate from the organization and leave with a strong support system of peers and
professionals. The impact an investor makes is extensive, yet anyone who invests in Come As
You Are has supported positive change in the critical mental and emotional wellbeing of
thousands of students, and the next generation of professionals.
Raising Money After Year 3
Once the projected 3-year budget has been successfully invested, Come as You Are hopes
to be self-sustaining through a variety of means. First, we hope to receive private donations from
both outside donors and graduated participants who are passionate about combating
perfectionism or have experienced change in this area themselves. In addition, we hope to
partner with The Blurt Foundation, which has a similar mission to ours. Partnership would
ideally be in the form of receiving grants and participating in conferences that would network
our organization with other like-minded NPOs. Lastly, we plan to showcase the products made
by those who attended the imperfection workshops in an end-of-year art exhibit. With the
permission of the creators, we will invite the student body of Wheaton College to witness and
purchase the creative practices of imperfection of their peers.
