Reading is important in a student’s life because it is a golden key that will open the door to the
world of wisdom and pleasure. It is also understanding the language of the author through written
symbols.

During this New Normal Period, it was found that in Phil IRI Pre test results of the learners fell in
frustration. Since reading comprehension is indispensable tool in learning and understanding
other subjects, therefore, the implementation of Project SiKaPP (Sikaping Karunungan sa Pagbasa ay
Panatilihin) is highly significant to the learners. This project aims to improve the reading level of the
learners while they are staying at home.

This project will be conducted by the proponent among the learners from Grade 1 to 6. Phil IRI
Assessment Tool will be used in determining the learners` level in areas of word recognition and reading
comprehension.
The effectivity of this project will be determined by comparing the means of the pre-test and post-
test in areas of both the reading comprehension and word recognition.

IV. PROJECT OUTCOME
As the specific objectives of this project, its outcome will be beneficial among the learners by
increasing their comprehension level through decoding meaning and by using short selections that could

in other subject areas since they are likely to be motivated to participate in the class lectures and
activities.

V. METHODOLOGY
Phil IRI will be used to assess the reading comprehension level of learners before and after the
implementation of the Project SikaPP. Learners will be subjected to a pre-test, and they will be classified
if they are frustration, instructional or independent readers
The advisers will select five (5) reading selections of not more than two paragraphs and will
construct three (3) to five (5) comprehension questions for every selection.
Every Flag ceremony, Five (5) to ten (10) minutes will be allotted for oral reading of the selection
and will be followed by answering of the comprehension questions.
Scores will be recorded to ascertain the trend of the learner’s comprehension level.
The post-test will then be conducted in March after the 10-week implementation of Project
SikaPP.
Simple statistics, the mean, will be used to identify the average comprehension level of the
subjects before and after the implementation of Project SiKaPP. The difference will be computed by only
subtracting the pre-test mean of subjects to their mean post-test result.
