Function of The Excretory System

The document discusses the human excretory system and the process of urine formation. There are three main types of nitrogenous waste products: ammonia, urea, and uric acid. Ammonia is excreted by most amphibians and aquatic animals, while mammals excrete urea. Uric acid dissolves in blood and leaves the body via urine. The urinary system, composed of kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra, filters blood to remove waste as urine. Blood enters the kidneys through renal arteries and filtered blood leaves through renal veins. Urine formation involves four main steps: filtration, reabsorption, secretion and excretion to remove only waste and excess water

Function of the excretory system (2nd slide)

- The human excretory system…

Explanation: Ang function ng excretory system sa ating katawan ay ang pagtanggal ng waste.

- During this process animals get rid…

Explanation: During this process inaalis ng mga animals yung nitrogenous waste products.

Ano nga ba ang nitrogenous waste products?

Nitrogenous waste products are the products of metabolism which contain nitrogen, produced by the
breakdown of proteins and nucleic acid.

We have 3 types of nitrogenous waste products

1. Ammonia
2. Urea
3. Uric Acid

Ammonia - is the primary excretory product in animals, it is derived from the proteins present
in the food we eat. It is the most toxic nitrogenous waste and is excreted by diffusion by most of
the amphibians and aquatic animals. Mammals excrete nitrogenous waste as urea.

Urea - The nitrogen combines with other elements, such as carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, to
form urea, which is a chemical waste product. The urea travels from your liver to your kidneys
through your bloodstream. Healthy kidneys filter urea and remove other waste products from
your blood

Uric Acid - Uric acid is a waste product found in blood. It’s created when the body breaks down
chemicals called purines. Most uric acid dissolves in the blood, passes through the kidneys and leaves
the body in urine

- Although excretory system are diverse……….

Explanation: Kahit iba iba ang excretory system iisa lamang ang process ng pagproduce ng urine o ihi.

The urinary system is composed of a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, a bladder, and a urethra.

Aorta - is the largest artery of the body and carries blood from the heart to the circulatory
system.

Renal Artery - The main blood vessel that supplies blood to a kidney and its nearby
adrenal gland and ureter. There is a renal artery for each kidney.

Renal vein - is an asymmetrically paired vessel that carries the deoxygenated blood from
the kidney to the inferior vena cava. Both left and right veins run anterior to their
corresponding renal arteries.

Kidney - The kidneys remove waste and extra water from the blood (as urine) and help keep
chemicals (such as sodium, potassium, and calcium).

Ureter - The tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder.

Bladder – a hollow organ that is located in the lower abdomen. It is held in place by
ligaments that are attached to other organs and the pelvic bones. The bladder's walls relax and
expand to store urine, and contract and flatten to empty urine through the urethra.

STEPS (EXPLANATION)

Blood enters the kidneys through renal arteries.

These arteries(aorta) branch into tiny capillaries that interact with urinary structures inside the
kidneys (namely the nephrons).
Here the blood is filtered.
Waste is removed and vital substances are reabsorbed back into the bloodstream
The filtered blood leaves through the renal veins.
Function of the Excretory System (3rd slide)

There are 4 main steps of urine formation:

Filtration or Glomerulus Filtration, Reabsorption, Secretion, and Secretion.
These processes ensure that only waste and excess water are removed from the body.
