How to Apply for Work Permit at NCKU

In order for international students to work in Taiwan, there are many rules and regulations that students need to be aware of and need to be followed. According to the "Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers" promulgated by the Council of Labor Affairs, foreign students who wish to apply for work permit need to meet one of the following conditions. Besides, foreign Students have been officially enrolled in a school to take courses for two semesters or more in a department or to take language courses for one year or more and have had an outstanding performance in academic accomplishments.
1. There is concrete evidence that the financial situation of the said Foreign Student is unable to

continuously sustain his/her studies and living.


2. The teaching or researching unit of the school in which the said Foreign Worker is enrolled is in need

of his/her assistance and participation in teaching or researching work. 3. The said Foreign Student has to engage in off-campus practical training related to the course(s) he/she takes. Foreign students who meet one of the following qualifications are not restricted by the provisions as referred to in the previous Paragraph.
1.

Foreign Students with exceptional specialty in a foreign language, with the ad hoc approval by the Ministry of Education, after his/her enrollment in the school, to work on a part-time basis as a teacher in that language in a subsidiary language center affiliated with a University/College or with a foreign culture and education organization stationed in the Republic of China.

2. Foreign Students enroll in a graduate institute and have been approved by the school in which the said Foreign Workers enroll to conduct relevant researching work. If the student meets one of these conditions, they can start to prepare for the following required documents to apply for the work permit. 1. Application form 2. Photocopy of student ID card (glue on the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training BEVT Application form) 3. Original Letter of Authorization issued by the School affiliated with the School in which the applicant is enrolled. (Combined with application) 4. Academic transcript of the latest academic year

5. Original postal remittance receipt for processing fee (NTD$100 per person). Please transfer the processing fee in the post office. Remittee's Name: Account No.: 19058848 6. Photocopy of the passport and ARC 7. Application Condition (Applicable if you meet one of the following conditions. Please check which application status you meet and explain the reason briefly on the NCKU Application for Work Permit, and then follow the instructions and complete the NCKU Application for Work Permit.) (1) Specific and concrete proof to show financial difficulty in sustaining his/ her studies and living. (2) Prove that the educational institution of the school where the applicant is enrolled is in need of his/ her assistance and participation in teaching or research work. The proof should be issued by the educational institution which requests the student's participation. It should be attached as the requirement of the application. (3) Proof of the applicants need for doing off-campus internships related to his/ her studies. i. Non-Contract Internship: The proof should be issued by the department/ institute which provides the course. The relevant documents should be attached as the requirement of the application. ii. NCKU-Contract Internship: If the internship company is under contract with the University, the applicant should submit proof issued by the company to ISAD office. Work Permit Application Procedure at NCKU: 1. Get the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training BEVT Application Form & NCKU Application Form from ISAD office/ website. 2. Fill out the application form and prepare the required documents, especially the documents of proof. 3. All applicants need to complete the BEVT Application Form & NCKU Application Form. 4. Go to the post office to pay for the processing fee of NTD$100, and attach the original remittance receipt with the application documents. 5. Prepare the whole application documents to ISAD with the postage NTD35. ISAD will help you send them to Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training in Taipei. 6. After receiving the work permit from the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training, ISAD will inform the applicant to pick it up. It usually takes around 2-week working days. Notice: 1. The status of international students in Taiwan should be in accordance with the regulations of Ministry of Education. 2. The applicants are required to have either spent TWO semesters studying degree courses in Taiwan. 3. Except for the summer and winter vacation, the working hours should not be over 16 hours per week. 4. The work permit is valid for a maximum of 6 months.

5. Work permits applied for during the fall semester will expire on March 31 of the next calendar year; work permits applied for during the spring semester will expire on September 30 of that same calendar year. 6. All photocopy documents shall be noted as same as the original and be sealed with company or owners seal. 7. Students who are on leave or on suspension from the academic semester and still hold a valid work permit should turn in their work permit to ISAD office. Because the validation of work permit is terminated, any foreign worker that violates the provisions shall be immediately ordered to depart from the territory of Taiwan and banned from further engaging in work in the said territory. 8. The bureau reserves the right to repeal the work permit of violators of these regulations. 9. According to Employment Services Act, foreigners who work without a work permit will be fined from NTD$30,000 to NTD$150, 000.
