Assessment 3 - Picture Book
For this assessment you will use your prior knowledge and understanding of ocean and coastal
environments to produce a Picture Book that is suitable for children aged between 6 to 8 years of age
- so you need to aim your book towards students who are in Years 2 and 3.
Your picture book should be a creative and engaging story that also provides some factual information
about an issue involving an ocean (or oceans) and/or coastal environments of your choice.
Your completed Picture Book must include all of the following essential components:
A creative and engaging book cover – which also includes the title and your name as the author.
An interesting story that involves at least two characters – and which also includes:
A detailed description and explanation of an issue involving an ocean (or oceans) and/or
coastal environment(s).
Suggestions as to how this particular issue (or issues) might be improved or resolved.
The text of your story should be at least 300 words in length.
The “Story” part of your Picture Book should be a minimum of 10 pages in length.
The final page must be your Bibliography – acknowledging all factual and graphical resources.
The minimum size for your book is: width = 10 cm x depth = 10 cm.
You may take any one of the following approaches when producing your Picture Book:
Hand-draw all of your illustrations and also hand-write your story and labels;
Hand-draw and paste computer-generated text and labels;
Use a computer to create and generate all of the pictures and text for the whole book.
Your Picture Book should also be bound – using either staples, wood, leather, string or ribbon.
