 Reviewing of the
previous lesson Yesterday, we discussed about the definition of
communication. What is communication? Yes Ma’am, communication
came from the Latin words
“communis” which means
commonness and
“Communicare” which means
to share.
 Very good! What else? Ma’am, communication is the
process of exchanging thoughts,
ideas, feelings and information
between and among others
whether verbal or non-verbal
to achieve particular goal or
purpose.
Precisely! I’m glad that you still remember
about what communication is. Okay, it seems
you have really understood what we have
discussed last meeting.

for the lesson

 Motivation ACTIVITY 1: Ring the Bell!

This time class, we will have an activity named

“Ring the Bell” using an educational game
website Baamboozle.

The class will be divided into two this will be

the group 1 and this side will be group 2.

To make the activity more fun and engaging,

we will have a scoring system. The winning
group of each activity will get 5 points, and the
other group will get 3 points. The group who
has the highest total score will get a reward.
Everybody should cooperate.
For the direction of the game, everybody please
read.

Direction: Each member of the two groups will

have one representative per question. The
representatives will compete to ring the bell
and answer the given question. If the answer is
wrong, the other group will have a chance to
answer. The questions can only be answered by
“Do’s” and “Don’t”.
 The winning group who gets 5 points is the
group 1! Group 2 will get 3 points. Job well
done class!

What was the video all about? It is all about the nature of
communication, ma’am.

What are the natures of communication? Communication is a process.

Communication occurs
between two or more people.
Communication could be
expressed whether its verbal,
or both verbal and non-verbal
at the same time.

Why do you think communication is a process? Ma’am, it is a process because it

has to follow a predetermined
set of steps in order to work.

Very good.
You can’t start communication by
understanding what has been said, until
something has been said. The message needs to
be formulated, transmitted, received and
understood.

Can communication occur with only one

person? No ma’am.
 Why do you think so? Ma’am, because communication
is the process of exchange of
information, ideas and feelings
between two or more people

One of the natures of communication is:
communication could be expressed whether its
verbal, or both verbal and non-verbal at the
same time.
Who can give me an example of non-verbal
communication? Doing gestures ma’am and
facial expressions.

Who can give me a scenario that we can see
both non-verbal and verbal communication is
used? Ma’am, when someone asks a
place, for example a store, we
can verbally say that “it is
located there” at the same
pointing our finger to the
location.

new skills #2 Activity 3: Fix me, I’m Broken

This time, we will have another activity named

“Fix Me, I’m Broken”.

For the direction, everybody please read.

Direction: Each group will be given a puzzle to

solve in just 1 minute. The first group who will
solve the puzzle will be the winner.

Are you ready? Yes ma’am.

Timer starts now!

Time is up!
The group who first solved the puzzle is Group
2! You will get 5 points. Group 1 you will get 3
points for this activity.

Base on the activity, how many components

has the communication process have? There are eight components of
communication process ma’am.

Very good.

What are the eight components of

communication process? Sender, encoding, message,
medium/channel, noise,
receiver, decoding and
feedback ma’am.
What do you mean by sender? The person who initiates the
communication process.
Very good.
Some more idea? A sender is also called the
communicator or source of
communication. The sender
might be a speaker, a writer, or
someone who merely gestures.

How about encoding? Encoding takes place when the

sender formulates his idea into
a message to be transmitted to
the receiver, using a series of
symbols- verbal/ or non-verbal,
written or oral.

How does a sender encode the idea? The sender encodes the idea by
selecting words, symbols, or
gestures with which to
compose a message.

How about the message? It is the outcome of the

encoding, which takes the form
of verbal, non-verbal, or
written language.
Very good.
Any other idea? Message is an idea transformed
into words.

How about medium or channel? It is the carrier of the

communication.

What is an example of a medium? Examples of medium ma’am

are face-to-face conversation,
telephone call, e-mail, or
written report.
Medium refers to the method you use to relay
your communication or your message.

How about noise? It is anything that distorts a

message by interfering with the
communication process.

Any other idea about noise? Noise refers to anything that

interferes with
the communication
process between a speaker and
an audience.
It's also called interference. Noise can be
external (a physical sound) or internal (a
mental disturbance), and it can disrupt the
communication process at any point.

How about receiver?

The person who receives the
encoded message.

Any other idea? The receiver is the individual to

whom the message is sent.

Very good.
How about decoding? It is a process by which the
receiver interprets the message
and translates it into
meaningful information.
 Any other idea? Decoding is the process of
turning communication into
thoughts. It is where the
receiver understands the
message that was sent by the
sender.

How about feedback? It is the response given by the

receiver of the message to the
sender of the message.

Any other idea about feedback? Feedback occurs when the

receiver responds to the
sender's message and returns
the message to the sender.

Feedback allows the sender to

determine whether the
message has been received and
understood.
Very good.
The components in the communication process
determine the quality of communication. A
problem in any one of these components can
reduce communication effectiveness.

F. Developing Mastery Activity 4: Drafting One-Act Play

This time, we will have another activity.

Everybody please read the direction.

Direction: Each group will be given10 minutes

to draft one scene for a one-act play that can be
staged applying the eight components of
communication. After drafting, each group will
choose one representative to read and discuss
the one-act play that the group has drafted.

You will be rated according to these criteria.

Are you ready? Yes ma’am!

Your 10 minutes starts now! (The students are doing the

activity.)
Time is up!
Group 1, please read and discuss the one act
play that you have drafted.

Thank you group 1, next group 2.

Job well done class!

For this activity, group 1 got the highest score.
 For the scores, sum it all up.
As mentioned, the group who will get the
highest scores on all activities will get an
award.

The overall winner is group 1!

Then all group 1 members will get chocolates

for a job well done.

applications of concepts
and skills in daily living Can you imagine life without communication? No ma’am.

Can you live for a day without sending

messages and calling your friends and loved
ones? No ma’am.

Is communication important in our lives? Yes ma’am.

Why is communication important in our life? Communication is important

ma’am because to live in
society we have to do regular
communication every day.
As human beings, we have to
discuss and keep
communication with others.

Yes, any other idea? Communication helps you form

as well as repair issues in a
relationship. One needs to
know how to communicate well
and properly.
Thank you for your wonderful ideas.
Communication plays a vital role in human life.
It does not only facilitate the process of sharing
information and ideas but it also help develop
relationships with others. Therefore, the
importance of communication in our day-to-
day lives cannot be underestimated.

Why communication process is considered as

incomplete without feedback? Feedback is essential in
communication so as to know
 whether the recipient has
understood the message in the
same terms as intended by the
sender and whether he agrees
to that message or not.
Feedback also enables us to evaluate the
effectiveness of our message. It makes
communication meaningful. It is the end-result
of an idea and makes communication a
continuous process. If our audience doesn’t
understand what we mean, we can tell by the
response and then refine the message
accordingly.
