3. Course Components

Resources:
Students are expected to take notes during the lectures, in addition to making use of the

O’Leary Timothy & Linda “Computing Essentials 2021”, McGraw Hill

Course Description:

The course covers the basic parts of the latest version of windows operating systems. It also
introduces the latest and basic components of word, excel, access, and power point. Hands on
experience is stressed. The course is practical in the lab.

Course Objectives:

1. Students will understand the basic concepts in IT, IS, and computer technology.
2. Students will describe computer hardware and software and identify their functions and
characteristics.
3. Students will understand data representation on computers.
4. Students will learn the types of software (application, system, etc.).
5. Students will learn to use the latest version of windows operating systems.

6. Students will use the MS-Office suit to perform word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and
database tasks.

Course Learning Outcomes:

A. Knowledge and understanding of Basic components of computer operating system windows 7 as


a user.
B. Knowledge of the basic skills of word, spreadsheet, and database as users.
C. Practical and subject specific skills (transferable skills): projects involve access excel and word.
