sphere of activity devoted to the pursuit of truth, beauty and freedom”. This means that art at any
time liberates us to bare our mind in visual forms which thus becomes aesthetic object for
human satisfaction.

more of the senses, emotions and intellect. It further noted that art encompasses a diverse
range of human activities, creations and modes of expression including music, literature, lm,
photography, sculpture and paintings. Our creative impulses can be appreciated through the
sense of sight (visual), the sense of hearing (auditory art) and verbalization (verbal art). This is
simple classication of art according to the sense organs.

externally. Since the history of humanity, art has been used as a useful instrument of
development in all ways.
Master and Smith dened art as “visual or spatial communication, it attempts to communicate
ideas and attitudes of the society or individuals who produce it”. This brief statement shows truly
that art plays important roles in the society.
Education is both the act of teaching knowledge to others and the act of receiving knowledge
from someone else. Education also refers to the knowledge received through schooling or
instruction and to the institution of teaching as a whole. Effective education is a learning
experience.
Education, is a process of inviting truth and possibility, of encouraging and giving time to
discovery. As a process, it is part of being and living in the world, part of the way our bodies
work. As an outcome, it is a new understanding or appreciation of something.
Education brings about an inherent and permanent change in a person's thinking and capacity
to do things. Many people have a supercial concept of education; equating it with doing a
particular course or obtaining a particular qualication. It can be in form of formal education,
informal education and non-formal education.
According to Fafuwa 1972, dened education as the aggregate of all the processes by which a
child or young adult develops the abilities, attitude or other forms of behaviour which are of
positive value to the society in which he or she lives
Art Education is the set of instruction on how to use language of Art. it is a mirror for the
understanding of the world and assigning meaning to it by using art. In modern education
system the use of art education can be seen as a tool to examine the creative and social value
of students, the different behavioural pattern of student and how they can improve in their
learning activities.
Art education can be dene as a process of presenting the emotional thought of individual by
using different materials and languages to challenge a student’s aesthetic sensibility, critical
thinking, and understanding of his or her environment.
It is also a method employ for individual to bring out the externally stimulated impressions
using experimental memory, richness of connotation, and systematic thought. i.e it is a
process of the transformation of collective thought, which belongs to the society, into personal
expressive languages.
According to Art education Partnership Working group Study (1993), art education is an
educational program established to intesify student’s motivation to learning, better school
attendance, improve multi-cultural understanding, and the development of higher order
thinking skills, creativity and problem solving abilities.
This group also dene art education as the process of teaching and learning how to create
and produce the visual and performing arts and how to understand and evaluate art forms
created by others

According to Punjab College 2020, art education is dene as a broad teaching programe
that provides an opportunity to encourage children’s imagination, effort, team work and
cultural understanding. It also teaches knowledge and education in diverse sectors of arts such
as: Music, Theatre, Dance, Visual Arts.
Arts education develops creativity, one of the top ve skills employers prize for the 21st
century. Students receiving an arts-rich education perform better on assessments of
creativity than co students receiving little or no arts education. Performing arts students,
for example, show greater exibility and adaptability in thinking than their peers.
Imagine classes in which students create original artwork lled with color that displays
a creative use of space, developing their own rhythms, or writing and producing their
own plays. These classes provide a wonderful environment for fostering creativity,
which is an important skill to have in a rapidly changing world.
The arts foster higher levels of thinking that carry over to learning other academic
subjects as well as to life outside of school. Through the arts, children learn to observe,
interpret, see different perspectives, analyze, and synthesize. In a world where students
must frequently wade through a sea of information to determine which facts are
trustworthy and relevant to a particular topic, critical thinking skills are key to college
readiness and lifelong learning.
As students learn to read notes, compose music, play an instrument, memorize dance
steps, create a painting, and act in a drama, they are also learning how to develop new
concepts, build vocabulary and understand a new language.
The arts require measurement, number manipulation, and proportional thinking, all
of which foster mathematical thinking. Students also learn patterns (musical rhythms
and dance patterns), spatial and geometric relationships (visual art patterns) and
three dimensional skills (making clay models). Students who study the arts, especially
music, outperform their non-arts peers on mathematics assessments. Arts integrated
math instruction also facilitates mastery of computation and estimation skills, and
challenging concepts like fractions.
Works of art provide a visual context for learning about historical periods. Music,
painting, drama, and dance help literature come alive. Graphic designs and
drawings, such as those made by inventors and engineers, complement learning
about scientic and technological principles and innovations. A report by Americans
for the Arts states that young people who participate regularly in the arts (three hours
a day for three days a week) are four times more likely to be recognized for academic
achievement, to participate in a math and science fair or to win an award for writing
an essay or poem than children who do not participate.
The arts teach young people about beauty, proportion, and grace. Students can
examine conict, power, emotion, and life itself. The power of the arts is in its
wondrous ability to give us joy, help us understand tragedy, promote empathy and
make the written word come alive.
