HCI Review

Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is a discipline concerned with designing and evaluating interactions between humans and computers. The goal of HCI is to design usable, safe, and functional computer systems by understanding how humans use technology and applying principles from fields like cognitive science, human factors, and psychology. Effective HCI requires putting the user first and considering human behaviors, needs, and preferences throughout the design process to ensure computer systems match how people naturally work.

What is Human Computer Interaction?

“Human Computer Interaction is a discipline concerned

with the design, evaluation and implementation of
interactive computer systems for human use and with the
study of major phenomena surrounding them”
 Human Computer Interaction
focuses on the interactions
between human and
computer systems, including
the user interface and the
underlying processes which
produce the interactions.
The contributing disciplines include

1. computer science,
2. cognitive science,
3. human factors,
4. software engineering,
5. management science,
6. psychology,
7. sociology, and
8. anthropology
 “ It is a wide variety of different kind of people and not just technical
specialists as in the past, so it is important to design HCI that supports
the needs, knowledge and skills of the intended users”
WHO WILL BE THE USER?
KIDS
TEENS
ADULTS
OLD
GROUP
ORGANIZATION
FAMILY
What is USER?
USER

 "user", we may mean an individual user or a group of users working

together.
 An appreciation of the way people's sensory
sight
hearing
touch

Relay information is vital.

 Also, different users form different conceptions or mental models
about their interactions and have different ways of learning and
keeping knowledge.
 In addition, cultural and national differences play an important part
What is Computer?
Computer
 Computer: When we talk about the computer, we're referring to
any technology ranging from desktop computers, to large scale
computer systems.
For example

 if we were discussing the design of a Website, then the Website itself

would be referred to as "the computer". Devices such as mobile
phones can also be considered to be ―computers.
What is INTERACTION?
INTERACTION

 Interaction: There are obvious differences between humans and

machines.
 In spite of these, HCI attempts to ensure that they both get on with
each other and interact successfully.
 In order to achieve a usable system, you need to apply what you
know about humans and computers, and consult with likely users
throughout the design process
 Human-Computer Interaction studies how people design,
implement and use computer interfaces .

 HCI has become an umbrella term for a number of

disciplines including theories of education, psychology,
collaboration as well as efficiency and ergonomics.
What is ERGONOMICS ?
ERGONOMICS

 A Science that deals with designing and

arranging things so that people can use them
easily and safety
Design that make it easy to use
The Goals of HCI

 The goals of HCI are to produce usable and safe systems, as well as
functional systems.
 Usability is concerned with making systems easy to learn and easy to
use In order to produce computer systems with good usability
As a developer
What is the first thing you need to do
The Goals of HCI

 Developers must attempt to:

▪ 1. Understand the factors that determine how people use

technology
▪ 2. Develop tools and techniques to enable building suitable systems
▪ 3. Achieve efficient, effective and safe interaction
▪ 4. Put user first (most important)
The Goals of HCI

 Underlying the whole theme of HCI is the belief that people using a
computer system should come first.

 Their needs, capabilities and preferences for conducting various

tasks should direct developers in the way that they design systems.

 People need not change themselves in order to fit in

within the system. Instead, the system should be designed to match
their requirements
 HCI design is about designing the computer system for the people
and not the people for the computers.
 There are a lot of important factors that have to be considered by
designers.
Example of factors is:

 1. Physiology such as the human behavior and mental processes.

 2. Organizational such as the influence of one individual in a group
with the other member as attitude and behavior.
 3. Ergonomics such as how people interact with different artifacts
 HCI design should consider many aspects of human behaviors and
needs to be useful.

 The complexity of the degree of the involvement of a human in

interaction with a machine is sometimes invisible compared to the
simplicity of the interaction method itself
a simple website that may be limited in
functionality should be complex enough in
usability to attract and keep customers.
Design your own product in short bond paper Title
1.make a plan
▪ -add information about the product
▪ -add details
▪ -who is your target client
▪ -what type of product
2. visualization
▪ -create a sketch of the the product
▪ -add some concept
Most effective
Graphics design
 1. Select the Right Fonts:
 2. Make your Colors pop-up bright:
 3. White Space is Strong and Worthy:
 4. Select Consistent Images:
 5. Balance and alignment
 6. Flat Design goes a Long Way:
 7. The power of Movement
 8. Look for Proportion
4 Types of Graphics
Flat Graphics
Flat design is what it
sounds like:
A design style that's two dimensional and
proud of it. There's no shading,
no added-in glare and no highlights to make
images look 3D.
Rather, flat design embraces a 2D style in
order to communicate information quickly
Real Photo
In optics, an image is defined as the
collection of focus points of light rays
coming from an object.

A real image is the collection of focus

points actually made by
converging/diverging rays
3D Graphics
3D computer graphics, sometimes
called CGI, 3D-CGI or three-
dimensional computer graphics

3D computer graphics rely on many of

the same algorithms as 2D computer
2D Graphics

2D computer graphics is the computer-

based generation of digital images

mostly from two-dimensional models

(such as 2D geometric models, text, and
digital images)

2D computer graphics are mainly

used in applications that were
originally developed upon
traditional printing and
drawing technologies, such
as typography, cartography,
technical drawing, advertising, etc.
PNG (Portable Network Graphic)
PNG is short for Portable Network
Graphic, a type of raster image file.
It's particularly popular file type with web
designers because it can handle graphics with
transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds.
