Lab Report 09

This document summarizes a lab experiment on a Wien-Bridge oscillator circuit with and without a stabilizing diode network. The lab included 4 tasks: 1) measuring the oscillator frequency and calculating error compared to expected, 2) measuring and calculating a resistor value and error, 3) measuring and calculating the output resistance and error, and 4) testing if the circuit still oscillates with the diode network shorted. It also included 5 post-lab questions about the effects of the potentiometer, diode network, output amplitude maintenance, operating frequency consistency, and circuit sensitivity. The document concludes with a critical analysis of learning about Wien-Bridge oscillator fundamentals and operation through the hands-on lab.

Lab # 9 Wien-Bridge Oscillator: With and Without

Stabilizing Circuit.

LAB-TASKS:

Task-2:

Task-3:

Task-4:
Can you obtain the similar results as in step vii with the diode network shorted?
Ans:
Yes, we can obtain the same result as in step seven by shorting the diode network
because current will also pass through then input signals will pass through the
circuit and we can generate the same output.

POST-LAB TASKS:

Question # 1: Discuss the effect of adjusting the potentiometer on the output

of the Wenbridge oscillator. Include in your discussion why the output would
go to saturation (clipping or no output).
Answer:
When we keep increasing the potentiometer we didn’t get any wave but when we
start to decrease the value we first observe the square wave after that when we
further reduce the value a sine wave was being observed.

Question # 2: Discuss the effect of disabling the diode network of the Wien-
bridge oscillator. Did the diode network add stability to the oscillator?
Answer:
As we know that diodes are being used to provide a stable voltage to the circuit
when diode was being shorted for a while a stable output was not observed but
when we replace the short circuit with diodes a stable voltage was observed.

Question # 3: Is the oscillator capable of maintaining oscillation at less than

full scale output amplitude?
Answer:
Yes, oscillator is capable of maintaining oscillation at less than full scale output
amplitude because amplitude could not affect the oscillation it only reduce the
peak of oscillation but not the oscillation it could only be effected by change in
frequency.

Question # 4: Is the operating frequency the same?

Answer:
No, the operating frequency is not the same the frequency changes with the change
of resistance.

Question 5: Is the circuit as sensitive to changes in feedback (Rs :R3 ratio)?

Answer:
Yes, the circuit is sensitive so it changes with feedback resistance.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:
In this lab we learn about the working and concept of wien bridge oscillatorand
also Basic RC oscillator fundamentals and Operation of the Wien-bridge oscillator
were being carried out. Output was when variable resistor was at 50kΩ the signal
was square. V p-p was very low but as the value of resistances were getting
decrease then voltage started to become sine wave and peak voltage increases.
