- First, the teacher elicits what students understand by the word


"Zero". ( Accept any relevant answers)

- Then, he tells them that they will be learning the expressions


containing zero.

Presentation Phase 2 / While teaching Phase

- After that, the teacher delivers the following worksheet to the


students.

- The teacher presents the target lexis step-by-step by explaining


meaning with the help of visual aids, drilling pronunciation (where
necessary) and highlighting the forms to make students get through
understanding.

1. absolute zero

Teacher explains that at zero Kelvin (minus 273 degrees Celsius) the
particles stop moving and all disorder disappears. Thus, nothing can be
colder than absolute zero on the Kelvin scale.

2. ground zero

By showing the picture, teacher explains that "ground zero" means "the
point on the earth's surface directly above or below an exploding
nuclear bomb".
3. zero hour

Teacher explains that zero hours means the time when an important event,
an attack, etc. is planned to start. He also highlights the pronunciation of
"hour" by oral drilling. ( H is silent, that is, H is not pronounced in the word
hour)

4. zero in on somebody/ something

Teacher tells students that it is a phrasal verb and it means "to direct all
your attention on the person or thing mentioned". Then he provides students
with example sentences.

- We must decide on our target market, then zero in on it.

NewYork Times)

Assessment Phase 3 / Post-teaching Phase

Completion

- Teacher asks them to choose a suitable expression for each sentence


in the given exercise.

Creation
