A pandemic that is currently considered one of the most challenging crises that every single

person is experiencing affects not just one country but almost all of the countries in the world.
On December 7, 2019, WHO was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan,
China. A novel coronavirus was identified as the cause by Chinese authorities on January 2020
and was temporarily named "2019-nCoV." One of the most affected by this is the education
system. COVID-19 makes education a lot harder and more complex due to the sudden pandemic.

The change in learning agendas from traditional education systems to online learning systems.
The Philippines as a country would greatly benefit from providing more of its students with
high-tech learning tools. A WorldRemit article explains that, "especially in emerging countries,
such as the Philippines," it is important that "students can get familiar with technology at a
young age." An article published by OffCrowd points out that "public education and technology
are hard to provide, especially where [the] majority of the people are living beyond their daily
means." The article goes on to inform readers that a technology gap is present in the local
schools of the Philippines and that this gap has been caused by a "lack of distribution of
resources to those below the poverty line." Without the proper resources, students in these lower-
income areas will not receive the same educational support as students fortunate enough to come
from higher-income regions. Filipino students suffering from the technology gap are the ones
that would benefit the most from these educational tools. Fortunately, certain conditions do
appear to be improving for the Philippines. (Yours, humanly, 2020)

Online learning is a form of distance learning that uses self-learning modules (SLM) based on
the most essential learning competencies (MELCS) provided by DepEd. The models include
sections on motivation and assessment that serve as a complete guide for both teachers' and
students' desired competencies. Due to this sudden shift in the education system, senior high
school students at JC Excellente Christian Academy Inc. are now experiencing culture shock
over the discussion on how online learning works. Through this paper, the launch of this type of
learning will be discussed, as this study is focused on finding out the effectiveness of an online
approach to teaching in order to assess the student's learning, performance, and achievement.

The purpose of this research is to find out the effects of online learning on the academic
performance of senior high school students and to encourage students that online learning can
help them improve their critical thinking while learning on their own. Students have the freedom
to choose to attend classes from any place of their choice. This allows students to access the
study material at their convenience (Priyanka Gautam 2020). The student will learn more by
experiencing than by listening. This will improve the way the student thinks. The old method of
memorizing a particular topic and vomiting it out during a test has been completely removed.
The student will learn to analyze and apply their knowledge better through these online activities
(Editorial Team 2020).

5.1 Learning Competency;

5.2 Academic Performance and;

5.3 Grades?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Students: This may help to create the perfect learning environment that suits the needs of each
student. Since online classes can be taken from home or any other location, there are fewer
chances of students missing out on lessons.

Teachers: This may help the teachers deliver the lessons in an efficient way to the students.
Online learning has a number of tools such as videos, PDFs, and podcasts, and teachers can use
all these tools as part of their lesson plans. By extending the lesson plan beyond traditional
textbooks to include online resources, teachers are able to become more efficient educators.

Parents: This may help the parents save on their child's education expenses due to the online
education rather than physical education. This is because online learning eliminates the costs of
student transportation, student meals, and most importantly, real estate. In addition, all courses or
learning materials are available online, thus creating a paperless learning environment that is
more affordable while also being beneficial to the environment.
