1. Comfort and encouragement:

 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father

be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God."

2. Defending his ministry:

 2 Corinthians 10:1-2: "I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of
Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am
away!—I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such
confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to
the flesh."

3. Reconciliation:

 2 Corinthians 5:18-19: "All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself
and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the
world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the
message of reconciliation."
