Good Friday is a Christian holiday in which the death of Jesus of Nazareth is
commemorated. It is celebrated during Holy Week, after Holy Thursday, and before
Resurrection or Easter Sunday.
On this day, the Catholic Church commands its faithful, as penance, to fast and
abstain from meat. The Eucharist is not celebrated either, but rather the liturgy of
the Passion of the Lord
Good Friday is, fundamentally, a day of mourning during which the crucifixion of
Jesus Christ on Calvary is remembered, who sacrificed himself to save humanity
from sin and give him eternal life. Hence the cross has been taken as the symbol
of glory for the worship of Christians.
In this regard, Peter writes in the Bible: "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the
just for the unjust, to bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made
alive in the spirit." (1 Peter, 3: 18).
Good Friday is a day of mourning and recollection for the Christian faithful. During
this day Jesus Christ suffered his ordeal on the cross for human redemption.
Good Friday means the memory of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, who died on the
cross for the salvation of humanity.
It is considered a day of mourning and penance; religious faithful usually fast on
that day.
Mihály Munkácsy: Christ before Pilate.1881. Despite knowing his innocence, Pilate
maintained the condemnation of Jesus, under the influence of the priests of the
city, who feared the power of the Messiah.
On Good Friday the most illustrated events of the Biblical scriptures occurred.
Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, and he was arrested and brought before Pontius
Pilate, the prefect of the province of Judea.
Jesus before Pontius Pilate
When morning came, they brought Jesus tied up before Pilate, and he realized that
the Son of God was without guilt. However, the religious leaders, priests and elders
clamor for his death sentence.
Pilate puts Jesus and Barabbas before the crowd. So the crowd, persuaded by the
religious leaders, decides to free Barabbas. On his part, Pilate decides to wash his
hands to exempt himself from responsibility in the condemnation of Christ
Jesus procession
Titian: Christ Carrying the Cross.1565. The procession of Jesus to Mount Calvary
was the last path that Jesus made before his crucifixion, suffering the humiliation of
those around him.
After this, they stripped Jesus Nazareno of his clothes, while the crowd whipped
him and spit on him. During his procession to a place called Golgotha, on the
outskirts of Jerusalem, they put a crown of thorns on him and made him carry his
own cross.

When they got to Golgotha they put Jesus on the cross. Next to him they placed
two thieves. In the gospel of Nicodemus and Lucas they are known as Dimas and
Gestas. The first, the good thief, located to the right of Jesus. The second, the bad
thief, placed to the left of him.
