Assignment 2 – Quantitative Data Analysis

Instructions:

Review the data that has been collected from the Snack Survey that was run in class (data is
located in Week 11 on eConestoga). Using this data, complete the following:

1) Draw a histogram to present the results for the following question “In an average week,
how many snacks would you consume in addition to your main meals”. Use four (4)
equal intervals. (2 pts) Summarize data in the histogram in two or less sentences (i.e.
what is the histogram telling us). (1 pts)
2) Draw a pie-chart summarizing the “most common reasons you choose to snack”. (2 pts)
Summarize data in the pie-chart in two or less sentences (i.e. what is the chart telling us).
(1 pts)
3) Draw a scatterplot showing number of snacks in an average week on the X axis and
maximum price per snack on the Y axis. (2 pts) Summarize the data in the scatterplot in
two sentences or less (i.e. what is the graph telling us). (1 pts)
4) Code the question, “In a typical week, how often do you snack in addition to your main
meals?” and calculate the Mode, Median, and Mean for your coded response? (3 pts)
What conclusion can we make based on the skewness of this data (1 pts)
5) Code the Likert Scale Question “I am snacking on healthier items” and calculate the
standard deviation (be sure to show your work). (2 pts)

Deliverable:

Submit an Excel document with your responses to the above. Please be sure to show detailed
calculations. It is recommended to use one worksheet per question.

Submit the assignment in the Assignment drop box, before the due date. Submissions more than
5 minutes late will be penalized 10%.  Assignments received after one day late will be penalized
another 10%.  Late submissions will not be accepted after 2 days late.

Grading:

Grading for this assignment will be based upon:

1. Accuracy of your response


2. Calculations shown
3. Explanation of results

The total grade for this assignment is 15 points and the assignment is worth 5% of your final
grade.
