Senator Raffy Tulfo and Senator Cynthia Villar debated over the conversion of agricultural lands into subdivisions. Senator Tulfo argued that he has seen farmlands in his province being converted, while Senator Villar said agricultural lands were never intended for residential projects. The author supports Senator Tulfo's position that farmlands should be preserved for farmers, not converted for businessmen, as agriculture is important for farmers' livelihoods and the Philippine economy. Farmers should not lose their lands due to developers' interests.

Reaction Paper about the Conversion of Agricultural Lands
Into Subdivisions
Agricultural lands are considered as the most important
aspect of production, not only in the living sectors of farmers but also in the business and economic sectors of the Philippines.Large portions of land became source of income by our farmers, but farmers tend to sell their lands as they loss their capital due to developers who have imported rice in a cheaper price. Developers who have proposed to buy the lands of farmers during the crisis of farmers who have not gained any profit neither gained the capital income spent. Farmers were taken advantage of by those developers who wanted to expand their businesses. So, today I am going to state my reaction regarding the debate between Senator Raffy Tulfo and Senator Cynthia Villar.
Senator Raffy Tulfo opened up the issue regarding the
farmlands which are converted into subdivisions, Senator Cynthia Villa opposingly argued with Sen. Tulfo’s allegation that agricultural lands in the provinces are not given interest for any residential purposes but Sen. Tulfo argued that he had seen agricultural lands in his place being converted into subdivisions. On the contrary, Sen. Villar cited that agricultural lands were never an option for proposed residential and commercial projects of big developers in the country.
This issue has given me the perspective to support the
point of Senator Tulfo, who has disagreed with Senator Villar’s explanations regarding the issue despite the state of accounts/ records she may have about the said topic. Farmlands should be preserved and cultured for Filipino farmers who have spent most years of their lives in farming. Farmers should be given benefits to pave the hard work they have worked on. Agricultural lands are essential to farmers, just like how farmers are important to agricultural lands. Not only limited to the living sectors of farmers, agricultural production could also help in the economic growth of the Philippines.
To end this reaction paper, I conclude that farmlands
should be preserved and not converted to any residential/commercial areas proposed by businessmen. Land tariffication will never be enough for millions of farmers who owned only 2 hectares or less of lands. Php 5,000 pesos for each of million farmers will never sustain a long run of their daily needs due to the rise of inflation as of today. Prices of crops, rice, and other necessary needs of every family have resulted in every family to endure hunger in their daily lives. As a citizen of this nation, farmers may not voice out themselves but the government or concerned citizens of this nation could be a voice for the families of the farmers. The government itself can take any actions that will not only benefit the farmers but also the economy of the Philippines.
